Ciao! Mio marito ed io stiamo pensando alla nostra luna di miele. Vogliamo visitare il Wilderness Hotel Nangu. Hai tipps per un roadtrip attraverso la Finlandia in inverno (tra Natale e Capodanno)?

The road you’re taking there in Finland isnfor the large part pretty horrible. It’s 2-3 hours of absolutely nothing. Better drive it during the day.

Edit: Whoops, I took a look and thought that was the Pokka road, but it’s the southern road, ignore this!

I would recommend to imagine how the roads would be during this time. For a journey that takes a day and 7 hours already? Make it 2 days in the winter.

I think this would be the last thing I would do if I had a choice in the winter.

It’ll be dark most of the time. When you go to Finnish Lapland, watch out for moose or reindeer. The bigger the road, the safer.

Make sure your car has two yellow vests, blankets, a flashlight, preferably some snacks and that you have weather-appropriate outdoor clothes with you in case you need to make an emergency stop somewhere. It’s also a good idea to find out where to call if the car breaks down. Oh, and proper winter tyres!

That being said, it’s not rocket science and people in the north don’t really avoid driving in the winter. You’ll be fine!

      Willkommen in Finnland 😄

Get proper winter tyres for your car, some nordic studless tyres are a good option for this use case.
No all-weather/all-season tyres, since they are a compromise solution that can’t match the traction of winter tyres.

Stop in Haparanda before before you cross into Tornio. Get any snacks and drinks as they’re much cheaper than when you cross. Fuel is normally cheaper to so it doesn’t hurt to fill up.
