Very good, metro and other public transport must work 24/7 in cities. The same for airports.

This trial was the first aimed at implementing 24-hour public transport in Athens starting from September, with service available every Saturday

So how do they do maintenance?

Metro works 24h Friday to Sunday in Barcelona And it’s great. There are night buses but are different lines from the day one
Edit: Saturday to Sunday. Friday until 2am only

As someone who frequently misses the last train by mere seconds, I sincerely applaud this move!

Note for any tourist that will be coming in Athens in September. It will be ONLY for line 2,3 (red, blue). Line 1 wont be 24/7. Also in line 3 will work 24 hours only until the station Doukissis Plakentias (meaning the trains wont run to the airport after 00:20). The tram lines will be running 24 hours as well as the buses 164, 221, 608, 703, 842, 049, A15, B11, B12.
The fact it will be running 24 hours only on Saturday is very weird, I think they should do it for Friday too and maybe Sunday (Those are the days when people go outside to clubs, events etc. So it will help lower DUI rates during those days)

Meanwhile the metro in Turin closes at 9:30 5 days a week.

isn’t that normal? Cologne has 24 hours running trams and buses on the weekends (Friday to Saturday and Saturday to Sunday) and it’s a much smaller city than Athens.
