Well fuck’em. Antidemokratic parties should have no representation in the government.

    2. snowsuit101 on

It being more popular than ever is likely the very reason many want to have it banned, and it’s a very good reason especially with Germany trying to build a large military. But even without that extremism, especially the anti-human kind, and political power can only doom the masses on the long run.

You can’t ban a collective world view from existence. You’ll only make them more mad.

    4. Decent-Thought-2648 on

After you ban the AfD, wouldn’t it make sense to have fresh elections? Because at that point with the BSW and FDP that would be a full 30% of Germans who voted in the last election unrepresented in the Bundestag.

Very good, time to ban the fascists before they can damage more of our democracy. Nest step after the ban: Radikalenerlass.

    6. Galacticmetrics on

If that happens Germany can no longer call itself a a representative democracy

I’m just having a debate with a bunch of Dutch folks – yes, Western Europe is in its core racist. The minute economy starts slowing down, their right hands begin trembling.

I don’t think banning the party would do a whole lot honestly other than galvanize supporters to the next similar party. Banning the party doesn’t do anything to address the reason it’s popular in the first place.

Funfact: The Federal Consitution Court said in the NPD ban case (2017) that the NPD cannot be banned because it is not relevant enough?

And now people are saying we can’t ban the AfD because it has become too relevant and popular.

    10. OkChipmunk2485 on

We do not need a ban, but a deportation to their Russian paymasters.

    11. Familiar_Advisor3298 on

Many redditors are as antidemocratic as AFD

      those saying

“people are too retarded to vote”

“we shouldn’t do a referendum over X because people are too stupid”

“we need to rethink democracy because people is retarded”

Opinions very popular on this sub, but when Reddit says this it’s ok

    12. MainMore691 on

What’s the reason they are popular? People on Germany have internet access, so they know for sure, who are AfD .

    13. Positive_Chip6198 on

Banning political parties only fuels their support, democracy needs dialogue and facts, not bans and silencing.

A large portion of germans disagree on the immigration policies, the other parties need to start listening, instead of falling over themselves to be politically correct. These tactics are what have empowered pootin to undermine democracy across the west. The old guard leftists just have to realize, not everyone is on board with rampant immigration. Banning afd wont help, those people will still be dissatisfied and will jump unto whatever party pops up in afd’s stead.

I believe these moves to ban will only hasten the decline of european democracy.

Instead, countries need to investigate which politicians are taking bribes from russia, china, qatar, saudi arabia etc. and make some arrests. Strengthen the law on election interference. Combat the internet botfarms that fan the flames of either side of every discussion to promote animosity and division. Europe is under attack, we need to wake up.

    14. machtiiin on

They are popular, as populists are in many European countries, promising easy solutions after the permanent crises of the last 10-15 years. Nevertheless, there would still be a majority to ban them, or try to.

The problem is that the constitution has high hurdles here for good reason. After the Nazi era, a party should only be able to be banned under high hurdles so that the government cannot evade political competition. The last time a party was banned was in the 1950s. An attempt was made at the beginning of the millennium with another extreme right-wing party and it didn’t work because although it was anti-constitutional, it was too small to jeopardize the constitution.

In the case of the AfD, the anti-constitutional nature is not quite so one-sided in legal terms, partly due to the high hurdles.

During the proceedings, which can take a long time, the party would present itself as a victim and that its opinion and that of its voters should be suppressed. If the proceedings are unsuccessful, in the end it was just election campaign aid for the devil.

What actually makes them neo Nazi fascist? Those words get thrown out a lot and even in the USA everyone tries to say Trump people are like this….but I find it’s a lot hyperbole and diminished the meaning of what actual nazism is.

    16. Nicita27 on

Lets face the truth. People vote for AFD because people are sick of immigrants. And this is the only party that says immigration is a problem and wants to to something about it.
As long as other partys don’t acknowledge immigration as a problem and want to do something about it the AfD will get more support every day.

the last time a very popular far right party was elected in germany, we got the holocaust, so yeah i think its fair that normal people dont like afd.

    18. lordkhuzdul on

Yeah, no surprise Germans are going “Been there, done that, didn’t like the tshirt”.

    19. freemason6999 on

The system is rigged. They played the same games in France with banning Le Pen.

    20. IamCoolerThanYoux3 on

A party represents the people’s voices.

So banning parties is literally what Hitler did.
I’m not sure if that’s what people call democracy and solidarity.

    21. Nice_Anybody2983 on

Ban then already! Nobody wants another fascist Germany.

    22. dustofdeath on

People are easy to manipulate if they are already vulnerable due to stress, depression, fear and hopelessness.

Nazism is very good at taking advantage of that. And democracy fails if people are no longer thinking themselves.

This is how democratic systems fall – no failsafes. They use democracy to destroy it.

    23. BillDeSilvey on

Anything that goes against the NWO is subject to being banned in Europe.

    24. Prometheides on

What about trying to fix the problems that has pushed the people to support an antistablishmet party that promises (most probably falsely, but still) to side with the citizens and listens to their outrage?

Nah, better ban them, that will totally work and strengthen the “democracy”.

    25. chronically_slow on

Everybody here is acting like the ban would be a political decision. It is not. It is against the German constitution for a party to work toward abolishing certain fundamental rights, thus if it is brought before a court, the court will decide whether or not to ban purely on evidence and law.

The political decision is bringing the case to court in the first place because only the government and the two chambers of the parliament can do that. But of course all of the parties are playing election tactics, so, except for the left, they’ll only give their support when they see an advantage for themselves

    26. PineBNorth85 on

Address immigration and migration and its popularity will drop. That is the only reason it’s at a high right now.

    27. markowithak on

Popularity should be THE reason to ban. Or wait for Boss to start the new brownshirt summer line.
