Probably won’t happen. Fishing rights is a very touchy subject.

Well no, they’re not even a candidate. Montenegro is still most likely to be next.

Guess they wanted to put the ICE in ‘European Union.’

clickbait title. they arent even a candidate.

i expect montenegro to be next, small country, politically stable, borders eu nation, already received some EU funding (when i traveled in montenegro i constantly saw these financed by eu signs near highways and tourist attractions)

Interesting comment section, but they will hold an referendum on continuing the candidacy talks in the next few years

I’m currently in favour of joining but the problem is that the main reason people cite to join is to get a stable currency. There is no wider discussion on the European project which is the main purpose of the EU. As soon as economic hardship comes I am 100% sure that the Independence party, Progressive party and Centre party will blame it all on EU.

I can’t help but be skeptical about Iceland’s sudden interest in joining the EU, especially given the current geopolitical climate. Now they want the security and stability the EU provides. Iceland will have to make significant adjustments, particularly with their fisheries policy, which is notoriously protective. They can’t expect special treatment. Joining the EU isn’t a one-way street where you get to cherry-pick the benefits without embracing the responsibilities.
