What a pile of dog turd.

How about instead of wasting time and ratepayers money on trying to force a shallow council-funded “culture”, where is the preventative (not reactive) policing, catching vandals, litter wardens, dog wardens, graffiti cleaning, street cleaning? You know, the basics that ratepayers need and expect. If the environment is clean and safe, businesses can do a lot to serve customer wants.

It’s easy to spend other people’s money on “street furniture” and “culture” initiatives.

Great initiative. The problem, of course, as ever is anti-social behaviour at night time

I feel like this is the wrong approach. Instead of trying to “encourage” the market to provide something that creates to a small (and underserved) niche that might not be financially viable in the long run but socially is valuable, the state should just be opening these Late Cafes themselves.

This is a cool idea and I hope it takes off.

The only thing is, from what I can tell, the way they’re doing this is having one day they support a load of things happening, rather than something happening every night, which I think is a little misguided. It doesn’t feel like an effective way to foster a habit – and thus a culture – of heading out, and it means you have three or four places/events competing for the same potentially limited pool of punters who might otherwise have gone to three or four seperate places/events on different days.

You know it’s Ireland when 6pm is considered “late night”…

Nope. There will be no late night cafe culture while we have the anti-social/criminal issues we have today.

Day time cafe culture is sketchy enough in the city as it is.

Having a friend that’s a recovering alcoholic so stays clear of pubs, it’s a fucking pain that we can’t meet up somewhere for a coffee after 6 o’clock!

Is there actually much demand for evening time coffee? I’d never fall asleep. Beyond that, often the ‘cafe culture’ is actually just wine…

Bro can we please just have a basement with lights and music and at least 2 toilets

Obviously a good idea, but we all know it’ll be 2032 by the time they figure it out..

This sounds so middle class and even middle aged/retired. They were trying for years to extend licensing laws but that ran into the wall that was FG backbenchers. The real question will the scheme last without any council funding?

Also I hope the staff at the cafes get overtime as they will need it.

Drinking coffee after 5 will destroy the quality of ones sleep . Garmin wearers know this firsthand. Stupid idea

    13. And I’m sure all the people on this very sub frequently whingeing about there not being enough late night cafes to go instead of the pub will be there patronising them every night, right?

      … Right?
