Just a little tip for those who dont know or maybe a friendly reminder for those who have heard this before. Deleting content on any storage devices like phones, PC/Laptop drives, USB drives etc does not delete the content on the drive, it just deletes the directory that makes the data easily accessible for the device it runs on. Once something has been removed from the directory or the directory itself has been deleted, this allows the device to use that space to save new data. All of your files, pictures, and videos are still there, and it’s incredibly easy to get them back, whether its you or the person you sold the device to.

I dont sell phones, I either stow them away or destroy them. I shred data on other devices that I pass on. When you use an application that digitally shreds data on a hard drive, it replaces the data with random data so there is nothing to recover but garbage.

I have had many friends reach out to me over the years to recover lost files, pictures and other content after the fucked up. It’s incredibly easy.

For mobile phones make sure you have your “Find my device” or “Find my phone” activated and you know how to use it. This way, if your phone is stolen, you can shred (Edit: Delete!) your data remotely as long as the phone has a connection when its switched on.
