But he’s completely against tax on private schools….

How he manages to fool so many people is beyond me.

What the fuck does this have to do with the MP for Clacton?

He’s got constituents with problems in Clacton that need looking at and he’s sticking his nose into a county where he holds no office?

Lefties literally aghast that you might be able to cut spending and not harm outcomes…like maybe you can be more efficient?

If you’ve even seen how much we spend on SEN transport you immediately realise why we’re so screwed as a country.

    4. Well_this_is_akward on

Currently the council spends £98m per year on school transport

    5. Less_Shock8583 on

He has no idea how necessary this is for many families. He can go on about how parents exist but the reality is many children just couldn’t get to school without this.

      > The party would not be drawn on how much Kent would be looking to save or which budgets, though Linden Kemkaran, council leader, told the BBC it would be “in the millions”.

I’m going to wager because they have no idea. They probably haven’t even looked at the publicly available information.

      > Farage said: “If you’ve got two kids living next door to each other getting separate taxis that is crazy.

This is going to be another one of those things where Reform try to eliminate something that doesn’t exist again, isn’t it.

      > “To have crept to a position where school transport is costing taxpayers almost £100m per year is unacceptable.”

Wait until you find out how much it costs to not send kids to school and you have an uneducated, unproductive population whose most appealing option is to apply for benefits and not work.

wtf has it got to do with that ghoul? You don’t see Starmer popping round to interfere or Kemi looking over the books. Do the job you’re fffing paid to do.

If it’s 100million a year, there are a million people on Kent, so where £100 per person cost comes from I don’t know.

Trump want to he …trump will tell him how the country is run

    10. I dislike Farage.

He’s a snake oil salesman, populist con-artist, who shouldn’t be trusted to run a bath.

But………I read the article before commenting.

The BBC have taken what he says and written that it “suggests” he’s calling for cuts.

At one point he says “If you’ve got two kids living next door to each other getting separate taxis that is crazy.”

      I mean it is.

As long as they are going to the same school.

“To have crept to a position where school transport is costing taxpayers almost £100m per year is unacceptable.”

There really just isn’t enough to go on from the article. If he’s been fed a diet of anecdotes like a taxi story then he might think that. But if they lift the lid and find that it’s hyper efficient with the cost per pupil one of the lowest in the country then fine.

But I’m not going to get my Farage pitchfork and torch out for the Reddit lynch mob just yet.

Taxis are provided when local schools can’t support the needs of a child and the authority dictates that the child must go to a specific school further away. They can’t just dictate that a family up sticks and move house. They can’t punish the family for not sending a child to school.

What does Far-Rage expect people to do? The usual ‘solution’ from his sort is deeply disturbing, which is why we need to make sure he never gets into power.

Investing in transport means children get an education and go on to be functioning members of society who work and pay taxes. The short sightedness of the far right never ceases to amaze.

    12. Shawn_The_Sheep777 on

If it’s home to school transport then it’s a statutory obligation of the council so good luck with that one

Back in my day I walked to school or my mummy would give me a lift 🙂

Considering how much Farage has cost the UK economy he really is a cheeky cunt.

    15. Plasticbonder on

Education isn’t a high priority for Reform. The last thing he needs is an educated electorate

    16. Fit-Distribution1517 on

The way Bristol City Council(mostly Green Party) is handling this seems like the best way to me… the council is investing in their own fleet, in the short term this means spending money but in the long term they’ll save money because they won’t be contracting out the service as much

    17. Rulweylan on

Farage is generally a dick, but this is an area where there has been a near total surrender of actual thought in favour of following the letter of regulations.

The amount of kids getting taxis to school is just silly. There are taxi firms making an absolute fortune off the taxpayer because councils aren’t able or willing to organize transport more sensibly.

    18. Talkycoder on

While Kent County Council is extremely inefficient (lived here my whole life), especially when it comes to transport, don’t forget that it’s the most populous county in the Southeast, with nearly 2 million people. To make matters worse, the council is now majority Reform MPs who don’t even show up for work.

I’m not sure what the taxi figure is at, but as someone with a nephew with some severe diagnosed mental issues, it’s nowhere near the easiest thing to claim, so I can’t imagine millions are getting free personal rides. They already group and route the entire town where I am, but maybe it’s different for villages.

Reducing KCC’s budget won’t force them to be more efficient. They will simply continue to squander the money. Change should be made by proper auditing of current practice and implementing a plan of action. If that plan ends up saving money, then the budget can be cut.
