Dublin city council paid out €20m alone in 2023 so I’d have my doubts about that figure.

We’re playing a game of finger pointing between insurers and lawyers every week while the rest of us get screwed. Time to reform both!

Fascinating runthrough of the statistics of the court service as a whole for 2024. You can read the report yourself: [https://www.courts.ie/news/courts-service-annual-report-2024-published](https://www.courts.ie/news/courts-service-annual-report-2024-published)

What’s mad is that we only have 195 judges. I’ve seen the stats of “Judges per capita” and we’re right down near the bottom of the list in Europe (it helps that other jurisdictions have broader classes of “judges” empowered to deal with various matters). There were 390,000 new criminal matters introduced and 356,000 resolved, and 184,000 new civil matters introduced and 148,000 completed.

      The workload is just phenominal.

Just add third party fire and theft to road tax and be done with it
