    1. Well, it’s not the first time we saved Europe is it, kind of got it down to an art form by now

Yeah but Reform is gaining support in the UK, and the growing backlash against Starmer, fueled by misinformation, could pressure him to step down.

Right now, our priority should be foreign policy and co ordination, so Starmer is the right person to lead on that. We can focus on domestic interests afterward, not before.

Didn’t France force the inclusion of fishing rights into the UK-EU defence deal?

Lots of honeyed words now but they were prepared to steamroll the UK when they had the chance.

Why does France block UK’s access to the EU security fund?

      Words are cheap.

    5. krazydude22 on

What he means is UK must pay in fish for the privilege to save Europe while France blocks access to the UK MIC…

Europe must save Europe, not just UK and France.

EDIT: I was not making a comment from the perspective of being Portuguese btw… I was making the argument from the perspective of being European and a EU citizen, which is different. The point is, that we should all work together to work for a common benefit, which is protection of Europe, since it has become obvious to me that we can no longer count with the US for anything… Even if in 4 years they change policies, I’m 99.99% certain that the US in a fast track towards an authoritarian regime, and usually that train only has one stop… A dictatorship. If the EU continues to passively wait for things to get better, like it did during Trump’s first mandate, then when actual authoritarianism/fascism or whatever you want to call it gets to the US, then it will be too late.

Honestly, at this stage, you’d probably have to add Poland into the equation here. The Poles seem to be one of the few, perhaps together with the Finns, that understand what is at stake here.

Hopefully, Germany can purposefully re-arm. We will need that.

“Our two countries have a special responsibility for the security of the continent,” Macron said. “What is at stake today in Europe is our ability to shoulder the responsibility to ensure our continent’s security ourselves to a greater extent.”

“We need to derisk our society and economies … We need to derisk excessive dependencies towards the U.S. and China,” he told lawmakers. Macron, however, added that he didn’t put China and the United States in the same basket.”

The audacity of this man after barring us from the rearmament fund to say this. Though I do wonder if this might be indicative of a change in policy.

Can the UK and France save the US? Asking for a former ally….

I’m tired of this man yapping, and yapping, and yapping without much to show for it. Underwhelming amount of aid to Ukraine, starting a stupid discussion about fishing rights with the UK as a prerequisites when there are far more important fish to fry (namely the France-UK defence deal), about to kill FCAS …

    12. KralizecProphet on

France and UK needed the US to come in twice during the 20th century and save them from Germany 🙂 But the deluded hypocrites think they can achieve something.

This is one of those “Schrödinger articles.” If I read it and the content confirms the headline, I despair at the useless people we have in politics. If, on the other hand, the content is more sensible, like saying “the UK and France can lead Europe by example”, then I get annoyed at the clickbait. So I’ll just live in uncertainty and don´t look inside the box.

Then maybe France need to stop fucking around with the immigrant stuff.

    15. Yeah, very “adroit” statement.

Strongest nuclear EU nation have the strongest windmill at his head.

These are strong sentiments from the French president but I can’t help feel that their actions to not back up their stated intentions here a la trying to restrict access for EU funds for British weapons, stalling defence pacts for fishing rights etc etc.

      >Our two countries have a special responsibility for the security

The two countries that resemble either India 2.0 or Afghanistan 2.0 are trying to lecture others about security.

You can’t make that shit up.
