      Try it some time

Jim Jennings, the broadcaster’s former director of content, did not appear at any Oireachtas committee meetings during the RTÉ payments scandal because he was on sick leave

      >Despite being invited by the Oireachtas Media Committee to come in for hearings, he declined to do so[. ](http://so.Mr) Jennings was spotted at The Duke pub in Dublin city centre last week for the Liveline presenter’s retirement party.

They know they can’t make him, so its all bluster on the TD’s part.

Just throw a fake shindig and invite them. When they show up, lock the doors and start the hearing.

Give me the big job the big title the big bucks the big benefits but none of the accountability.

There should be legislation in place to cover this.

Bit of a joke that these lads on obscene money can just pull a sicky to avoid accountability.

I often see posts on Reddit suggesting that people with mental health issues should still be able to go out, have a drink with friends, and try to live their lives and that recovery doesn’t mean isolating yourself and waiting for things to magically get better. I agree with that sentiment. Struggling with your mental health doesn’t mean you’re confined to your home or expected to avoid any social interaction.

Now, I’m not saying this guy is a saint. He most likely knew he was doing something wrong and may very well be trying to wriggle out of it. But at the same time, I imagine the whole situation would cause anyone stress and there was probably a lot of issues going on behind the scenes. I absolutely believe he should appear before the Oireachtas when he’s deemed fit to do so. However, going for a few pints at a mate’s leaving party isn’t, in itself, proof that someone is mentally fit to face a parliamentary committee. Those two things aren’t the same.

It makes a mockery of the authority of the Dail tbh. They should have the power to compel appearance. He’s fully entitled to game the system. The public voted against the Dail get any plenary powers so they have to just accept it

Can they like “serve” these people in disguise or something, similar to the opening of Pineapple Express
