Is this another one of those ‘job postings are down, it must be because of AI’ stories?

    3. But we are all supposed to work until 70 according to experts, now AI supposed to take the jobs….I’m confused… /s

You have to be insane to be positive about anything in this day and age

The phrase AI won’t replace your job, the person using AI will is complete nonsense. AI might make 1 person do the job of 100 people. There will be just less jobs out there. There will be mass unemployment due to AI by 2035.

I have wondered if we’ll see a sharp decline in college attendance & graduation over the coming years; where’s the point in applying for (say) Software Development if every techbro company is sacking people left right and centre? We’re a far cry from my generation of early 2000s when we had a class of 300 first years and all that chatter about starting salaries in IT.

So Ive been spitballing we might instead see a sharp rise in apprenticeships, trade colleges and various roles or vocations that are (so far) AI free. Honestly at this point in time I’m wonder if saving for college for my two under-5s might be a fool’s errand at this point.

Peak time for young people to look at trade jobs. Jesus, I wish I’d have done that when I was young.

It’s hard to believe governments across the world sleepwalked into this without any controls or having a long-term thought out plan in place or more concerted pressure to put the brakes on while they prepared.

If AI has the ability to completely take your job then it must be very basic work with minimal thought required and certainly no physical aspect.

I work in Engineering Consultancy and Education , in both areas AI is actively being used as a support , particularly on document generation for reports and reviewing of data , but anything more complex and it seems to fall down . For a long time yet it’s going to be a support for many many jobs.

It’ll be OK, WWIII will sort it out, they’ll all be Cannon fodder.

I set up my business almost a decade ago – I remember being in one of those shared work spaces where all the techies would shite on about “This will automate so many of your tasks!” and I kept thinking to myself “Man, you are automating yourself out of a career lad.”

Anyone in Tech will tell you it’s not AI killing entry level tech jobs it’s offshoring. Entry level jobs, like Help Desk roles, Junior SOC roles etc. are nu beings offshored.

Nothing Todo with AI, although I’m sure it’s having some effect, it’s definitely over exaggerated

I keep hearing this, especially about AI making tech jobs redundant, but for some reason all the big AI companies aren’t having mass layoffs of their developers.

Surely if it was as good as they are making it out to be we would be hearing about openAI or someone firing 90% of their staff?

We are sleep walking into a general intelligence. Probably creating the future ruler of the planet and our replacement as a species.

That’s why I’ve no problem with my son doing a trade when he leaves school . I’m actually encouraging it . AI is only it’s in infancy now , you can only imagine what it can do in 10 or 20 years time .
