Overall,  a single currency for the EU was the right decision.

Fitch and S&P’s just upgraded Bulgaria’s credit rating because of the decision on the Eurozone accession.

The map shows Andorra using white colour but it also has Euro as currency.

I checked on Grok for you & apparently the answer is *Adolf Hitler*

Edit I have a bag of first print euros from Spain, so it would have been a while ago.

I remember sitting in the car heading to the bank cause my parents were gonna change their Dutch Gulden for Euros

    7. While in 1999 11 counties adopted the euro, the real use and circulation of the euro was in 2002.

The local currencies were pegged to the euro since 1999.

In that case, Bulgaria should be quite earlier (pegged to the deutsche mark and therefore to the euro) and even Denmark should also be in the map as the danish krone is loosely pegged since ERM-II but with very little change in conversion (less than 1% variation).

Not a fan of the newer countries, Greece already pulled the EURO in danger, but let’s include another economic unstable country…

Technically Portugal might have agreed on 1999, but it only entered circulation in 2002

I know because I’m from there, and was a kid when we made the switch

This is unnecessarily annoying to read since, after the early bird adopters, they all have different years.

Wasn’t it easier to just put each country his year?

Montenegro here. We started using it in 2002. No, we are not in EU and who knows if we are ever going to be.

Bad news for the euro. Every camp Bulgaria is joining in is failing.

I am not quite sure it actually got adopted here yet. Everytime I talk to my parents about buying something expansive they start to talk about how much that would have been in the old currency…

Romania was eligible in 2016 and 2017 but our f.king politicians were afraid they will no longer be able to print money for the government contracts to their friends. Also the governor of the national bank was afraid he will loose his political power (the same guy is the governor for the last 35 years), he is the biggest opposition to EUR.

As a result: Bulgaria credit rating just got upgraded because they announced joining EUR, Romania credit rating will be downgraded to junk next month.

    15. The Euro is the best thing EU has done. Economically it might have pros and cons, but for EU integration it worked wonders. And it’s just a cool currency imo. The standard designs on the front and national symbols on the back really make the idea of ‚united in diversity‘ tangible.
