      >French **billionaires control wealth worth nearly 30 percent of their country’s GDP**

      >Leading by example

      >”There is no reason to wait for the finalisation of an international agreement,” they write. “On the contrary, countries should take the lead by example, just as France did in the past” with the introduction of VAT in 1954.

    2. This will only work if both US and EU implement this type of tax at the same time.

Because otherwise, they will just move away.

Which they will try or do anyway. HOWEVER, you could possibly then sanction those people / companies and possibly countries that accept them.

You kind of have to be aggressive for this to actually work.

    3. How about a law against hoarding money?

Is it really necessary to have like 53 Ferraris, 7 Yachts, 3 Jet Planes and liquidity in 6 different “tax haven” countries?

When is it really enough for these mofos?

One of the starkest moments in recent memory, and just one reason the yellow jackets became a thing, was when the Notre Dame burned and in less than 24hrs, the initial €1bn needed to be raised for the renovation had already been covered by two or three of the richest people in France.

The fucking gall of the people living in an already top3 most heavily taxed country on the fucking planet. Nothing is ever enough for them when it comes to spending other people’s money.

Why would a French wealth tax have any better outcomes for France than Finland’s did for Finland?

    7. Unfortunately, the ultra wealthy can easily move to other countries where there is no wealth tax. The only way to effectively tax them regardless of where they live or which citizenship they have is by taxing assets that cannot be relocated, such as real estate. A Land Value Tax (LVT) for people who are ultra wealthy could work very well.

A tax is far kinder than what billionaires deserve. In a sane world any competent and non-corrupt government would just seize their wealth

Billionaires in France now control a lot of media and as a french I have seen how more extreme right those have become over the last 10 years…. Democracy is at risk

I still look to the French for revolution of any kind. They, or their influence, are baseline for any dramatic democratic change since the American revolution. Give me air softened suspension or give me pot holes!
