Ireland’s what? And why are Irish so butthurt about Trump? irish leaders have been terrible and now you’re getting blown out by migrants but all Irish do is cry about Trump a US president who will be gone in 3-4 years? Politico is very bad writing as well, as they are obvious eurocratic propaganda.

Interesting that the only politicians the article seems to quote are FG politicians, that it ends with a couple of paragraphs about how we are distracted by, in essence, ‘silly stuff’ like the argument over speaking time in the Dáil, and Paschal telling us how frustrating he finds it… as if it hadn’t been the Government that forced that to become a problem by changing long standing rules.
Ireland badly needs to get a healthier, diversified economic base, whether or not we believe Trump will follow up on his threats this time or not. With America the way it is the cliché ‘don’t put all your eggs in one in basket~~case’~~ really couldn’t be more pertinent.

We are exposed to the whims of the big orange twit. If MN corporate tax revenue goes down it puts us over a barrel

He’s declared war on multinationals? But aren’t they his best friends that paid for his two presidential campaigns?

T.A.C.O. – Trump Always Chickens Out, a term created by wall street investors who put money into the opposite of whatever Trump says he is going to do because he doesn’t follow through on anything!
This would be disastrous for EU and the US so he will chicken out.
ALSO this is just a big distraction from the Epstein list and that his ICE army is arresting US citizens without due process and that the US economy could be declared a recession. The GDP report for Q2 is due out in a few weeks if it shows a decline the US will be in a recession there’s no hiding that!
Obviously we.should still prepare ourselves Ireland and the EU as this guy is a lunatic but I don’t think things will be as bad as some make out

What miracle?, wages have stagnated most Irish youth live at home with their parents
Our native SMEs are closing at rapid rates and our extreme overeliance on MNCs is a recipe for disaster once the Ai revolution kicks in a lot our those jobs will disappear like Vapour. Our GDP is inflated because leprechaun economics well our GNI shows us as having a massive wealth imbalance that’s growing daily
This is living proof we learnt nothing from 2008 and how relying on Big MNCs from abroad is a bad model for long term employment stability (political corruption too has gotten worse too)
As Tk Whitaker warned in the 60s we should have used them to stimulate domestic SMEs and local MNCs at least to diversify our economy and stimulate our youths prospects
But the government loves to screw up the same way twice and it’ll be worse now because of the new American regime and AI (I’m going to get downvoted by FF/FG fan boys but I don’t care and the disaster will happen and i damn well will say it) edit spelling

We really should’ve been preparing for this a long time ago.
It’s plausible that a Democrat could have made attempts to reshore US manufacturing, probably in a different manner, but still, it’s a popular goal among a lot of the US political divide.

There is nothing we can do realistically speaking. Developing an alternative industrial policy is something that takes decades.
The nations that enacted it are countries like Singapore, South Korea and Taiwan that used something called [industrial policy](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Industrial_policy). In our system EU state aid rules and more specifically our neoliberal policy have made this impossible. It’s more our policies than the EU.
It would require massive investment in our 3rd level institutions and a wholesale restructuring of our industrial sector. It would require multi billion euros in various universities
