The New York Times journalist Nanna Heitmann published an article titled “A Landscape of Death: What’s Left Where Ukraine Invaded Russia.” It tells her six-day journey through Russia’s Kursk region alongside fighters from the notorious Chechen Akhmat special forces unit.

The piece begins by describing Ukraine’s “unexpected incursion into western Russia last summer” but does not explain the context or strategic motivations behind the limited cross-border raids. Only later does Heitmann note that vast areas of Ukrainian territory remain under Russian occupation. Several quoted individuals repeat familiar Kremlin talking points, claiming NATO expansion sparked the war and suggesting Ukraine attacked Russian border towns out of frustration at being unable to strike Moscow.

I mean yeah, it probably looks like a landscape of death, russians have no issue levelling towns with aerial bombs and artillery whether Ukrainian or their own. I find the most misleading part of this story is that Akhmat was doing anything than running like rats when the Ukrainians entered. It was russian marines that after months of brutal fighting and massive losses dislodged the Ukrainians. Akhmat doesn’t fight, they run and hide, then after the russian marines and airborne take ground they come in to take tiktok videos of shooting at empty buildings and abuse POWs

I’m so glad I canceled my subscription to the NYT. Shameful and a disgrace to journalism

The NYT has not learned a single thing in the last 3 years. So I guess they do this on purpose.

Man. I was wondering if I was reading that headline correctly.

      Hey uhm what the fuck?

Still. All in the name of independent journalism…

I remember riding the trains in high school the NYT being the paper the smart people read. Even if it was more expensive, the paper went in depth and was above the trashy headlines of the NYP or Daily News. People even had a fancy way they folded it. How far they’ve fallen.

    9. German photographer who lives in russia 😂😂😂🤡🤡🤡 Yeah fuck off!

“She collected testimony from Russian soldiers”

I wonder if she left out the testimonies where they raped children and stole toilets?

      Mutants

There is no wrong way to fight back when your country is being invaded.

Adding NYT to my “shit list”, along with WaPo. Somewhat credible resources are much worse than 100% non-credible, you drop your guard and they poison your mind.
