Subject is misleading, but didn’t want to editorialize it. SCALP / Storm Shadow (same weapon, different name) production never halted, France is simply placing its first order in 15 years.
Likely to just be a stopgap to fill in dwindled supplies from sending some to Ukraine, as France and the UK are co-developing 2 missiles to replace it (and the Harpoon / Exocet).
* TP15 – subsonic but stealthy ultra long range cruise missile, primarily for land attack, but some anti-ship capacity, akin to a Tomahawk. UK leads this effort
* RJ10 – supersonic ramjet powered missile, designed for anti-shipping, SEAD/DEAD (suppression/destruction of enemy air defenses), and targeting enemy aerial assets such as AEW&C (airborne early warning & command) and refueling aircraft. France leads this effort
TP15 is supposed to be delivered before the end of this decade, and RJ10 is supposed to be first half of 2030s. As such, a large order of SCALPs doesn’t make much sense if retirement is planned in the very near future.
