Understandable that the EU is looking at bigger targets after Trump wheeled out his 30% threat. But services tariffs – off the table so far – would really hit Ireland where it hurts. Digital services taxes on things like online advertising and services makes up a significant component of the profits made by US tech giants here.
On the moral side, I’m thinking “Stop f’ing around and hit them hard.” On the parochial side, I’m thinking “This could be really bad for people in Ireland.”

The thing that Trump and most people don’t understand is the US might not be a manufacturing player but they are big in cash going into the country from other countries through tech and finance in general. Like pensions invest quite a lot in the US, tech is primarily based in the US to the point where it is a general security risk for the EU generally, if the EU pulls cash out or starts investing in local competition to the US it could get very serious for the US economy very quickly. Like if anyone would lobby to stop this stuff it would be the likes of Microsoft if it starts being a realistic target for the EU. As a Linux developer and user I’d be really happy if knocking Microsoft down a few pegs was a byproduct of all of this shit.

Maybe try appeasing him again. Or call him “Daddy” like NATO, I’m sure that’ll work.
