A combination of relatively high immigration and racial profiling by the police.

I can’t find it now, but there was a report put out by our Police, that said that something like 45% of prisoners were Albanians. I’m sure ***IF*** this is true, that it contributes to the above chart.

While I haven’t had any bad experiences with a certain race, except Romani, who I do not know if they add to the graph for Greece, there are many Albanian criminals here. While Albanians have integrated relatively well in Greek society and are very hard-working people, there are some that take part in criminal activity like burglaries and drugs. Also, I could guess that some Muslim immigrants could play a part due to rapes and harassment.
I do not have any official data support the above, just a guess.

Some quick points:
1) A lot of incarcerations regard human trafficking (either illegal immigrants or traffickers ). Just these incarcerations make up a significant proportion of people in prison.
2) The immigrants in Greece are mostly of impoverished status so they have a higher prevalence in robberies, thefts etc.

Our judicial system tends to imprison with a racial bias especially on petty crimes.

Non-assimilated immigrants (no such intentions)
Backwards mindsets from poor countries – trying to bring here what the learned at home (intentionally or not, doesn’t matter)
Crossroads of major crime states like Turkey and Albania, Balkans as a whole. So it attracts “game” from middle east Africa etc. Trade routes exist in illegal markets too
one of the main illegal immigration landing grounds alongside Italy and Spain. People who come here are mostly males ,20-40 with a very bad upbringing. Arriving in a country were only 20-30% lives well and the rest barely get by , doesnt really leave much room for better options for most newcomers, even less if you have a third world mindset/upbringing.
Albanian issue… (see Switzerland to get a better idea)
in essence : bad country of origin = bad upbringing = bad “παιδεία”/culture/mindsets.
***Nothing to do with race. Everything to do with mindset/culture/”παιδεία”.***
**Please understand though – This justifies Nothing**. If people do not want to deal with this, and want to stop mass (illegal and uncontrollable) migration , they should have a right to demand it. Not everyone…actually…most are not war-torn families anymore. We are dealing with something very different that’s only comparable to anarchy.
Ive seen people from Syria and Egypt be better Greeks than many, and certainly better at assimilating than most Albanians who were born here.
Police prejudice , though very existent, is – in my opinion – very low compared to actual “foreign crime” . We arent America. Police has prejudice against ourselves too.
There is a real issue with having random crazy people from third world countries, , hidden amongst others, to come by boat, and not be able go stop it. … it’s very disturbing to Just call that “police profile targeting”.
Asylum seeking is being abused by people – It is no longer a valid justification in my eyes.
edit: people bellow this comment, saying its just Police prejudice, and that most migrants are just innocent bystanders etc, are naive and have zero understanding of what is happening in the islands and societies that get them in. its a cultural problem . Legality and asylum seeking is just a mask, A fasad. I would rather have 100 families of normal people – some of which would stay with a proper identification and filtering process, than dozens of boats filled with 20year old including many lunatics.

Most of them are illegal immigrants and refugees. They are in prison for committing the crime of entering and staying in the country illegally. In Greece the only way to enter the country is illegally either you are immigrant or refugee. When the refugee enters illegally since there is no other way he runs and hides until he arrives in one of the few spots inland where you can request asylum.
But if the greek police catch him he is abducted robbed and sent back either by a little inflatable boat to nowhere or forced to walk to Turkey. And the other option is to imprison him. They of course don’t have the right representation and are left to rot.

One reason is that criminals with Greek nationality tend to get suspended sentences so they don’t go to prison, such as a recent celebrity found guilty of attempted rape. Foreigners get much tougher sentences which are often not suspended so they go to prison. Then there is the poverty and desperation of many migrants which leads them into trouble.

Greece has a practice of accusing regular migrants of being people smugglers and imprisoning them with very long sentences. You can read more about this issue here:
> Lawyers have reported that the trials of smugglers are riddled with procedural flaws and lack of evidence. It is often the most vulnerable who will steer the boat, they say, including men who agree to do it in return for a reduction in the price of passage for their family members. Arrests are arbitrary, they claim, if it is unclear who controlled the boat.
> Last year, an Afghan refugee was awarded €15,920 (£13,660) in compensation after being wrongly accused of people smuggling. He had served more than two years of a 50-year jail sentence after being singled out as the person steering the vessel, say lawyers, because he happened to be standing next to its wheel. The real culprits had abandoned the boat much earlier.
> Those imprisoned for smuggling now constitute 20% of Greece’s prison population, with more than 2,000 people jailed as of February 2023, according to data released by the Greek Ministry of Citizen Protection.

One example is the imprisonment of “traffickers”, I need to put it in quotes, because they aren’t traffickers but rather migrants that they had to guide a boat to the closest land and the authorities judge them as traffickers, usually their trials are about 5 minutes in Greek.

It mostly breaks down to people from third world countries (from Africa and from asian countries like Pakistan etc.), due to their habits and beliefs. And secondly, Albanians mostly, as well as other minorities like Georgians, Bulgarians and Romanians, who mostly have to do with drugs. They work like gangs.

Albanians and gypsies who are Greek citizens also make local % higher than it is. Albanians (non citizens) occupy 25% of our jails even though they are 4% of our population

Albanians. Even if we are like 5% of the population in Greece we commit the majority of the crimes the last 2-3 decades. Even me or other albanians that I know hear someone speaking Albanian in the middle of the night, we walk faster or move to the other side of the road lol.

Albanians and other illegal migrants. Thats it.
Especially in the early 2000’s a lot of Albanian criminals left Albania and came to Greece. This is the result.
The illegal migrants part is pretty self explanatory.
