In August of last year, Minister for Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media Catherine Martin TD and Fáilte Ireland announced that Killarney Brewing and Distilling Visitors Experience was among the five venues awarded a total of €1 million through the Platforms for Growth Gala Dinner Venues Investment Scheme.

Feel bad for the people who are about to lose their jobs. Always enjoyed their beers

I cant think of any nice beers they had. All style and no substance. Would be better off perfecting some nice beers, then look at financing bigger and better premises

I won’t pretend to understand business but shouldn’t you already have a strong business before you open a visitor center?
Think I saw a different post s brewery struggling somewhere else. I suppose it’s the consequence of the huge growth in micro breweries. They were never all going to survive

Is the one on the Muckross Rd. Closing down too? Will that mean their beers won’t be on sale in the off licences anymore?

sad for the workers involved who are losing their jobs though it has been clear for some time that there is a correction coming to this sector for quite a while. so many craft beers on the market and not a jot of difference between them. how anyone thought that sinking 30 mil into such a premises was a good idea I do not know

I really enjoyed their beers when I could get them ( which seemed really limited location) hotels in Ireland should really do better on having Irish beers on draft . Most hotels are crap at it .

Was there a while back – really impressive operation and great to see the science behind it.
A real shame to see it closed.

I very nearly did their tour last month, but stuff came up so I didn’t.
I’ll be honest in saying I don’t rate highly either their beer or their spirits _when compared to other nearby competitors_ on quality and price. Others are cheaper for similar quality, or for same money are noticeably better.
I don’t know why they’ve failed, but I do hope that somebody picks up the business and competes far harder on both price and quality. Most of the “craft” alcohol industry in Ireland has become very samey and not good by international standards. You can find pockets of excellence – some of the special own brand bottlings from the Celtic Whiskey Shop are like angels dancing on your tongue AND very keenly priced by international standards for sometimes 35 year old blends. That’s the standard we ought to be aiming for as a nation and culture.

Ah damn, I just discovered their beer while cycling the Ring of Kerry a few weeks back. I just found out last weekend that my local Supervalu sold them. Might buy a few and keep one bottle as a souvenir now.

It wasn’t a gud idea to build it so far ouothe town, most would have to drive out there. Most wouldn’t chance sampling a beer a drive, better off staying in town, The Francisian well in Cork is booming because of its location and selling pizza…
