I dunno, 16 is a bit young it seems. Really anything lower than 25. But I suppose if you can go to war you should be able to vote. I don’t see this going well.

Vote should come only of you work and pay taxes. Age only should not be a sufficient criteria.

    3. I don’t understand why people want to attach arbitrary requirements to voting. If you’re capable of understanding the concepts involved you should be able to vote because the outcomes of elections affect you.

Labour thinking the kids will vote for them, after they have sat back and fucked their future over and over.

~~russia~~ “Reform” is gonna step up their TikTok game even more now 😀

    6. Good. But those 16/17 will need to vote, if they want their voices heard

I think this would be great IF we didn’t live in a world where aggressive algorithmically-optimized social media brainwashing campaigns were a thing. Not that 18 year olds or older aren’t susceptible, but with a little more lived experience under their belt, their opinions can alter drastically compared to their high school peers.

      stupid idea.

lowering voting age from 18 to 16 – where you are trusted to make decisions that will impact the lives of others.

at the same time as creating ever more things where 16yr olds need to be protected from the consequences of their actions, porn, alcohol, smoking, contract protection…

Adolescents aren’t morally or intellectually or ideologically consistent. If you know what fads are, then you know how this goes.

The far right fuckers who’ve been hacking democracy in many places have figured out this too, so what you see with fads is manufactured by massive astroturfing campaigns and social media influence trafficking. I’ll let you guess who has money to pay for that.

My guess is that the kids will get scammed, as they’re ripe for scamming, much like boomers. So… what’s the equivalent of /r/LeopardsAteMyFace in the UK?

Learning from being a victim of scams is possible and valuable, of course. It’s just that, much like BREXIT, that kind of learning comes at a huge cost (which is why a good education system can produce the same lessons without destroying society, the climate and the biosphere).
