I mean, who doesn’t know that? Hardly groundbreaking journalism.

    2. harmlessdonkey on

How many properties did MDH have? Not exactly watergate-level journalism tbh.

    3. sheelinlene on

In fairness, how is this news? This isn’t a Robert Troy or Damien English situation, this is all above board, no lying or conniving involved

Edit: actually a landlord having 2 homes for rent is what I’d prefer. We need more houses for rent and the problem is companies buying up dozens (with gov encouragement) and pricing out, small landlords are much better.

Still not going to vote for her, but I think the ditch may just be miffed they weren’t first to break the more offputting story of her (legally) claiming €800’000 from the EU for her to rent property she already owned

The “News” flair on this post is doing a lot of heavy lifting…

    5. Holy fuck, mothering bollocking, Nolan sisters, mary joseph and jesus christ

      It’s 11:55 on Thursday

    6. If this is the worst they can come up with it’s basically an endorsement

I don’t care about her being a multi-property landlord if it’s all above board- I’m not voting for her soley because she’s a pretentious EU boot-licking snob.

    8. assflange on

Knowingly owning two properties in Meath. I’d be embarrassed as well if this got out.

    9. Specialist-Flow3015 on

Running an article about how a Fine Gael election candiate is a wealthy landlord of multiple properties is a bit like telling us a Sinn Fein member has strong views on Northern Ireland.

    10. TheBatmanIRL on

All potential candidates are probably landlords. They are already wealthy people and what do wealthy people have loads of…. properties.

      Try it sometime…/s

Are the ditch gonna report on Connolly’s awful comments about Ukraine?

      Probably not

    12. CurrencyDesperate286 on

I haven’t really looked into her expenses, so there may be a story there.

But “family with high earnings own more than one property” is hardly newsworthy. I mean, I have a friend whose dad was a taxi driver and owns 5 houses.

      Fork found in kitchen

Wasn’t voting for her anyway tbf .. unless it’s between her or someone like McGregor and im desperate

Louth woman extorting some Meath folk. As God intended 🚩🏳️

    15. Massive own goal for the ditch here. Clear as day they are just anti-centrist, anti-norm mouth pieces. This pangs of “yeah, well…she’s a landlord so feck off”. Also I’ve never seen such a short article surrounded by requests for donations.

    16. Entire-Gas-7651 on

FG, conservative multi property landlord, water is wet.

    17. howlermonk3y on

This sorry excuse for mud slinging makes her look better than OP.

      Poor.

    18. PalladianPorches on

This is so newsworthy that they edited her wikipedia page this morning, and double referred it to the linked public declaration with this massive news.

I couldn’t believe it at first – this is “autopen” level news on r/ireland by these pseudo journalists. they need to spend more time in the recycling bins where they get most of their stories.

    19. hotlinebalally on

Ditch fanboys always rage when this term is used but this a textbook Ditch nothing burger.

    20. MarcoVanB91 on

      It’s more newsworthy if a presidential candidate isn’t a multi-property landlord

    21. HonestRef on

Typical shite from the ditch. What about Michael D Higgins?? They wouldn’t dare criticise him for owning property, because of their left wing politics.

    22. SoloWingPixy88 on

So what’s the issue here? Is there anything specifically wrong with being a landlord? Is she mistreating her tennants?

    23. asdrunkasdrunkcanbe on

Oh look, the ditch putting out a weak hit piece of a FG politician. It must be a day ending in Y.

Michael D also owned 3 properties at the time he was last elected.

People who have money to spare, tend to put it into property, because it’s most reliable.

There’s nothing seedy going on here unless you’re one of those people who clings onto the cartoonish notion of “landlord” being an evil guy with a top hat and a suit and a big bag of coins.

    24. Character_Pizza_4971 on

Owning more than one property is near the bottom of a long list as to why McGuinness would be a poor president. Michael D has a couple of houses, I think, as well.

    25. JONFER--- on

From what I can tell everything is been done legally and above board, were it’s not dont you know that the ditch would be all over it.
I’m personally don’t like her politics and how team Eu she is.
She is pretty successful and her husband has a high paid job, what’s the problem with them having a few investment properties?
