I don’t care about individual instances like this as long as it’s not widespread. 22 people is the same as 1 person in the grand scheme of things.

This is how chain migration has always worked. One person moves to another country, starts working and earns enough money for the rest of their family to gradually move over to be with them.

My father has 3 visits a day by carers after a stroke left him bed bound. In 6 months we’ve only ever had two white carers visit the rest have been of African ethnicity.
They tell us that they feel it’s unfair because they get contracted hours to work in the care sector yet the two white girls who are local to the area are on 0 hour contracts.
The African carers feel there’s resentment towards them for it and I don’t blame them because our system currently is completely radicalising people against minority groups by completely ignoring growing concerns and brushing cultural conflicts under the carpet.
What frustrates me though, is these African workers want to bring their families here. I can’t blame them. But seriously? Does having one worker mean that we need to house their family too?
Pre COVID I had a Japanese friend fly over from Tokyo to spend 10 days with me here in Wales. I meet her in Newport South Wales.. when asked about how she thinks of the UK so far her words were “I can’t believe how many black people there are here” hahaha

Moving to a Western country is a major cultural shock. And I mean not only by the lifestyle but especially by our morals. Some public behaviour between genders is often an anathema for cultures where men and women live separately. Older generations will never be comfortable.

Obviously immigration policy cannot be completely permissive, but the core issue is the idea there can be two legal frameworks.
I don’t care what your religion is, but there is one law of the land – as long as we all insist on that, this shit doesn’t matter. If, however, we allow the rich to play by their own rules, or the religious to self govern : we are fucked.

2. “Following” rather than “because” means that there’s not necessarily a causative link here, but if there, this was *our* fuck up. We leaked their names, we now have to protect them.

As a non-British person, this is mind-blowing and does not scale unless you tell me that the 22 relatives will contribute to the UK economy, share British values, participate in the society they are integrating into, and respect their host. Being Afghan should not be part of the equation, but other things should be, things that have nothing to do with what you are, but rather who you are. Unfortunately, many policies are created haphazardly, trying to treat everyone the same in a manner that’s perceived as inclusive and kind, when in fact it’s just running with scissors.
I believe immigration to the UK can be a fair and straightforward process, primarily through established pathways like the skilled worker visa, which welcomes those who bring value and contribute positively to society. This isn’t unique to the UK, many European countries face similar challenges regarding immigration.
However, we must be honest: uncontrolled or poorly managed immigration can create genuine tensions, strain public services, and risk undermining the shared values that unite us. If we let fear of being called names – like “fascist” or “intolerant” — stop us from having open, reasonable discussions, we’re doing a disservice to democracy and to each other.
That doesn’t mean giving in to extremists on either side. We must reject hatred and bigotry wherever they appear, but also be brave enough to have tough conversations based on facts, not fear. Upholding humane, fair, and sustainable immigration policies is not only reasonable-it’s essential if we want to preserve the kind of society we all believe in.
Hope for the best!
