      Notice how 58% say they would like to see strong powerful integrated European Union defense system. But as soon as asked to do the actual fight, only 16% are up for it. I am guessing, by integrating with other countries, they are hoping to not get themselves involved in doing the fighting, but leaving it up to others to pick up the slack.

      These surveys are always stupid, because it inevitably depends on context, and asking people sitting at home in their nice peaceful country invariably leads to a significant under-count of people’s willingness to fight when the lives of their friends and family are at risk.

      Surveys also showed that a minority of people in Ukraine would fight for their country prior to the war, the Oxford Union famously endorsed the motion ‘this house refuses to fight for king and country’ in 1933 and polling suggested most young frenchmen wouldn’t fight if called to in 1909.

      These stories are stupid, and we have over a century’s worth of evidence for them being stupid. The fact this kind of polling continues to take place and be reported on seriously in, frankly, incredible.

      I’d prefer if the rich fight their own wars, and not send the poor to die to make them even more rich.

      Honestly, I used to think it would be necessary to defend my country if it was needed.

      But after the governments favored the rich again and again as the population buying power diminishes more and more, I don’t feel it’s a country worth fighting for.

      I’ll only defend people who actually gives a shit about us. Not going to die and spill blood so the greed and corruption can keep going.

      Just hard to see how there would be a war, that would directly threaten Italy. Who is going to attack them? France, Austria, Switzerland, Croatia?

      So I guess the real question is: Would Italians be willing to fight in the Baltics or some other place, where there could be a NATO – Russia war.
