In Denmark the government cut a public holiday. None of the 3 government parties would claim that it was their idea.

Oh, and also the reason was that we needed more money for defense, at a time where Denmark keeps on finding more and more money in the budget, because our economy is booming.

How much would it save versus the costs of policing and clearing up the inevitable riots?

I manage a team across multiple European (UK, Dutch, Danish, French, German and Spanish). The employment laws in France are by far the most bizarre. However I’d target the type of contract that is known as “forfait jours” or “forfait heures”. It is just ridiculous and extremely unfriendly for any business that does care about their employees but operates internationally.

As a Dutchman, I hope they won’t have to suffer the same absolute dearth of public holidays that we do where we have a couple around April-early June (one of them only being a public holiday every 5 years for some dumb reason) before having literally NOTHING until Christmas.

    13. Remember when 4 days weeks were discussed as the future? Doesn’t seem so long ago, now they’re unimaginable.

Tax tourists, like by a lot, at least to reduce the deficit in the next couple of years. Still, even with this they will have to cut spending, tax is already high as fuck for the french.

The usual. Anything except making current pensioners pay more.

Fucking gerontocracy man. And then you’re supposed to be grateful to wipe their arse for minimum wage because you’re not unemployed, while they collect your ever-increasing rent

If there’s something macron isn’t good at it’s definitely populism.

Danish government scrapped the Great Prayer Day in 2024. It had only been a national holiday since 1686.

A few demonstrations and about 1/8 of the population signed a petition to keep the day, but to no avail. The politicians would not back down despite the public outcry.

    18. Just ask Denmark how well that worked out, when the state slashed one, beloved holiday.

Most companies didn’t need or want it, and either provide it as a free day off or as an optional PTO day.
