tripling the entry fee might deter budget travelers more than it enhances security or funding.

Hopefully people will stop complaining about the U.S. doing it now.

No hidden political meaning here, just an EU department needing to make sure 10yo single malts can continue to be served during Fridays happy hour.

      >Currently, the cost for visa exempt arrival is set at €7 for applicants, with exemptions for those under 18 or over 70 years old at the time of application. However, the European Commission now wants to triple the fee to €20 in order to raise additional funds.

      >The proposal accompanies the presentation of the Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF), the EU’s long-term budget for the period 2028–2034, which foresees a significant increase in revenues generated through so-called “own resources”—that is, taxes collected at EU level.

    4. I know this is reddit so reading articles isn’t cool, but the $250 fee for the US doesn’t apply to VWP countries (most of the EU) and is refunded if you leave the US by your visa expiration date and if you don’t violate your visa conditions – aka the majority of tourists.

The EU fee makes sense – if we have an overtourism problem, let’s at least get more revenue out of it. If it discourages more low-quality budget travelers, that’s fine. It’s still a very small cost and shouldn’t do much for tourists, as if you’re already spending thousands on coming to Europe and staying here, 20€ makes little difference. But due to the quantity of tourists we get, it should help some funding.

This is probably also going to raise ETAS visa waiver fee in the UK; as it will be seen by the government as an easy way to raise revenue…

This is why there must be no visa fees or visa between UK and EU. It’d being raised again and again and again, killing tourism.

We are supposed to allies, not enemies.

Should be much higher. 20€ is a joke, current 7€ I do not even bother commenting. 50€ should really be the minimum, it is not much anyway.

    8. Comes after the UK also increased its ETA fee from £10 to £16
