A good example of why we need strong protections for tenants. The fact that one of the landlords seems to work in employment law is interesting, because it is the same reason why we need strong employment laws.

The world is full of petty tyrants. Flawed people who, when given any small amount of power over another, use that power immediately and without any regard to (or even relish for) the harm caused to others. It is fine to have a disagreement with someone. What isn’t fine is using your power over someone’s ability to make a living (employment) or their home to take out your frustrations on them in an incredibly harmful way.

The article states that the proper notice period would have been 180 days, however my understanding is that technically if the tenancy isn’t RTB registered you can’t actually issue a valid termination notice?

Also not sure what the basis for the termination would be in the first place if it wasn’t deemed to be antisocial behaviour. It doesnt sound like they we’re selling up or moving in themselves.

I’d say the hearing would have been interesting, based on the random situations in the article. Horses scared of clothes lines and all!

I knew one of the tenants growing up. There’s no possible way they’d be capable of doing anything considered ‘anti-social’. I think it’s a pretty reasonable request to tell the parents of a nosy child to keep them away from the house and the landlords response to that is absolutely insane.

      Holy shit!

In all seriousness, the landlords sound like absolute gowls.

Not registered and block the tenants from claiming the tax credit. Should be forced to pay that too.

I’m sure the tenants can claim for the last 5 years so could still get it.
