After 35 years we are the same people but we got iPhone.
Oh dear. What the heck is wrong with people? Even rose-tinted nostalgia has its limits surely?
Let me guess, most of them were born after the fall of communism?
How many of them grew up in the infamous orphanages?
Romanians, how can this be explained?
The sample is large, with 1,500 people.
I know how Romania has changed over the past 30 years, and I find the results of this survey shocking.
Effective propaganda and media control, excluding other points of view
must be the result of right wing populism, very strong in romania
Some serious brain rot going on. He and his wife were put up against a wall and shot for a reason. Romania came on the brink of famine by the end.
The parliament building in Bucharest is one of the most insane buildings ever built.
People miss the free houses and free natural gas heating. Economically heating water with natural gas is like setting fire to a load bank notes to keep warm.
They miss “full employment” at a factory using 1930s technology that made a fridge built like a tank because some central planner said only a certain form a steel was allowed to be milled.
They miss 10-20% GDP spending on a military that only ever shot at its own people.
They miss country where the price of bread never changed since the 1940s and alcoholism was rife.
Where a career criminal was treated better than a political dissident, would would invariably be found “mentally ill”.
I’m sure they don’t miss the food shortages and secret police beatings. They don’t miss being forbidden to take a flight to go abroad or even to listen to music or read a book that had the “correct” political thought. Endless chain link fences and visas and permits to be allowed to do anything. That it was a crime against the state to set up a business.
Whatever socialism is, it’s not that.
Wow, what? Because this dude did not align with Muscovy for once?
Follow your leader?
What the actual fuck?
This is absolutely shocking. He was the most brutal one in the Eastern block
Combine all the voters of the extremist parties, and those of the Social Democratic Party – successors of the Communist Party, and you’ll get about 66% of the population. I am not surprised.
Also, rose-tinted glasses are a hell of a thing.
Probably this is why they wanted to deal with him as soon, as possible.
Looks like the whole country is a little bit slow
It is called Stockholm syndrome. Every nation that gets rid of a genocidal strongman leader, seem to in some way, miss the abuse. It is like a battered woman, who goes back to her spouse. Stalin statues are going back in the subways in Russia, and no one is even vandalizing them…
If you’re Romanian and reading this and really truly believe what the article says, you can just take a look at Serbia to see what are the results of 35 years of Ceausescu like leadership. Plus minus couple of years in the early 2000s.
Even better – compare percentages of GDP per capita and PPP but keep in mind that some of the Serbia GDP has been tuned with money laundering.
This means the system wasn’t dismantled and it keeps promoting the dictator long after his death.
vai de capul meu
Distance makes the heart grow fonder. Ask yourself the older relatives why they killed him.
There are many different ways to ask questions when you do poll. In many cases, if you know what you are doing, you can get any result the paying customer requires. Question… who was the “paying customer” for this poll?
50 years of comunism with low education will turn people into idiots.
Moved to Austria 6 years ago and people don’t believe me when i say it wasn’t for the money and they don’t understand why I don’t want to come back.
Not only in Romania but all over the world people are losing their critical thinking.
I did this to my mom when she was complaining about not enough money compared to the good old days.
Go cancel your phone and cabke subscription, buy 100 g of salami per week for meat, turn off all electricity and gas for half a day, do only 1 shower a week. Aaah but i cannot live like that… Well then stfu.
Why? Cuz a dead guy is seen as better than Dan?
Rose tinted fecks.
Welp, humans REALLY forget everything in a generation or two. Doesn’t bode well as we’re heading towards 100 year anniversary of WW2.
This is why you don’t let the dictator survive the revolution.
We’re not just taking a few steps backwards. This is an entire leap.
Answering “good leader” to the question “From what you know or **have heard**, Nicolae Ceaușescu was a good leader or a bad leader for Romania?” it means that some youngster heard that Ceaușescu was a good leader, not that (s)he thinks that he was a good leader.
So yeah, we have enough useful idiots in Romania, but take the poll with a grain of salt.
What? If he was so good, why did you put him and his wife against a wall them shoot them dead? Mistake?
Goes to show how important history lessons are. It seems that Romanians have failed in that.
And it seems the older people who do remember, did little to teach the younger generation.
The average Romanian will tell you that most Romanians are “prost”.
When 66% of people in your country think something you can’t just ignore it as „results of russian propaganda”. 6% could be explained by that, but not 66%. It means that there is something real and something with basis in material livelyhood of people that think that. Wealth unequality? Shitty life? Structural unemployment? Enclosure of some modern commons? Massive corruption? You should really look into it, and not just dump those opinions into rubbish and then became surprise that some far-right lunatic will win elecitions.
Even if there is some actors that spread propaganda, propaganda don’t spread on it’s own, it needs some good ground to florish. There are always people that spread propaganda in every society, but it is not in every society that 66% people think that totalitarian dictatorship with cult of personality is better than what they have. Its speak something about modern Romania.
every single one of these idiots say that he was a good leader because we paid all of our national debt. nevermind the food rations and 5 hour queues for food
In times of uncertainty, the masses are more eager to surrender their freedom in exchange for a sense of security.
The direction the west is going, we won’t have to wait long before we’re back there again. This time without alm the free stuff.
The quote they use: “What Ceaușescu build you can’t even paint”, referring to the today’s rulling class
Just people wishing for simpler times. Happens all over the world and always looks stupid.
I’d really like to see how one of these surveys is conducted.
Neoliberal austerity + capitalist corruption and inequality + far-right (social) media radicalization for a „strongman“ to save all —> dictatorship support. No wonder, people start believing that tyrants were great actually. The democracy must pose the social question again and take on the corrupt politicians and their billionaire backers or those billionaires will use a radicalized people propagandized to follow a tyrant to take over the political system in their struggle against other billionaires and their corrupt minions. Imo.
A rough translation explains why the % is so high.
“He says that this percentage is a direct consequence of the information war we are in, at least 10 years of serious active measures directly coordinated by a hostile power, waves of misinformation, lies and grotesque manipulations propagated on all channels of multiplication of information, but especially on social networks„.
„A campaign of destabilization and social vulnerability that was not fought either by the state or by society, neither from the public nor from the non-public sphere. A campaign against which we have neither built capabilities nor allocated resources to build the right antibodies that we can only find in attachment to freedom, in good governance, in sincere patriotism, brother to integrity, honor and common sense, not with aggression and import” violence, claims Ștefureac. “
Same thing going on here in Hungary with János Kádár a lot of people are nostalgic for that cunt of a dictator. A lot of policies that Orbán uses are built on this nostalgia although he doesn’t do it openly but it is clearly there between the lines.
Sadly this is a very difficult thing to educate the population out of. The only reason why this was successful for the Germans was the huge energy that they spent on denazifying the country and a lot of education afterward and yet the ideology still coming back. Lot of post-soviet countries didn’t do the fraction of that, so why are we suppressed that it only took us 30 years the slide back?
Communism is good? Dictators are good? Are people losing their minds?
Although I have never lived under a communist dictatorship, I was born in a democracy, the United Kingdom. I am a citizen of two democratic nations, the United Kingdom and France, and I am currently living in another democracy, Germany. However, I know history well, and those who do not learn from history are bound to repeat it, often many times over.
Communism and fascism are like brothers. Both seek the destruction of freedom and individuality in every form. In my view, communism is worse than fascism. Although both are evil, I consider communism to be the greater evil.Communism killed over 100 million human lives, while fascism killed around 40 million. That makes communism not only more deadly, but in my opinion, more dangerous. Communism is essentially a clone of the utopian ideal. Even the original idea of communism was to make all humans clones, creating equality of outcomes. Furthermore, in a communist utopia, if all became forced equal, the upper power becomes utterly empty as no one truly exists. This then leads to dictatorship by a person or party. Its original idea was utopian, but utopia is something that belongs in stories, myths, and dreams. Let it forever remain in stories, myths, and dreams, not in reality.
He was so good that the people who were actually alive at the time felt the need to overthrow his regime and have him and his wife shot.
The level of education in Romania is so bad you have no idea and this literally proves it, less than 40 years and they already forgot how bad it was under the communists.
I’m Croatian.
Lived in socialism, communist type, 18 years.
At one point I was on vaccation on our seaside, back in late ’90ties, next to very nice couple of ballet dancers from Romania, that were at that point living and working in croatia.
Sht they told me of how life looked under Caucescu in Romania was too extreme even for my brain that was used to communist bullshit 🙂
Croatia, that went through 45 years of communist rule, followed by 4 years war on its teritory, looked like “land of free and rich” to this poor souls … both of which were basically “sold to slavery” at extremelly young age because their parents couldnt feed them and couldnt see a way out of poverty for them other than sending this young kids to ballet camps, whether they wanted it or not (both didnt, they just got stuck in that career).
They need to listen to Behind the Bastards series on him.
The word that describes the situation is manipulation. It is the cancer of a society. Tik-tok is a tool used for propaganda and manipulation and noone seams to care or any governmental instruments are taking action.
We are at war! China-Rusia against European Union.
