After 8 years of trials, how much deeper does their understanding really need to get?
Just make a bloody decision.

Always funny to me when they claim “safety is everything” yet driving is still the most dangerous form of everyday transportation and we can’t do anything about that

They’re hardly new, and you can go and see them in action in just about any major European city. Maybe just allow them?

How much fucking longer do they need? At what point does it cease to be a trial and become a permanent thing. It’s been long enough, just make a decision either way. Why can’t they just bring in a legal standard like with e-bikes (e.g. limit the max motor power/speed) and anything not exceeding those limits is fine.
Also, stop treating them like cars for things like drink driving. It’s utterly mad that I can cycle on my e bike after the pub going at 15.5mph but if I’m caught on an e scooter at 15.5mph it’s treated like drink driving in a car and bye bye license. Despite an e scooter having absolutely no similarity to a car. Bullshit law

I accept that as problems in the country go, it is absolutely trivial, but I’m not sure that there is a more unjust and corrupt peice of legislation on our statute books than “you’re not allowed to ride one of these things unless you pay one of our chosen private companies”.
It doesn’t scrape the top hundred problems in our country but it’s just *wrong*.

Some people must surely be concerned at why it’s perfectly safe to ride these for profit companies owned scooters for hire than it is to ride one’s own personal purchase e-scooter. Who is getting lobbied and paid off here?
* 1-in-20 e-scooter riders will be involved in a collision per year,
* 15% of these accidents will put someone in A&E,
* Per mile it is at least 3 times more lethal than a push bike.

One of my favourite things to do is take a scooter around London. It’s so fun. I don’t understand the problem people have with them.
If you’ve ever cycled in London on tube strike day, you’ll know how hilarious and chaotic it is when a larger portion of the population use 2 wheels. We should encourage it

Is it really even a trial at this point? It’s been years. Just state that only rentals are allowed and let us all move on.
I want private ones to be legal, but until they actually make a decision I’m not going to shell out £200+ on something that might get confiscated.

It’s because e-scooters are too dangerous for the public to be properly trusted with them [as in this extended trial we’ve already discovered that:](https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/1179786/national-evaluation-of-e-scooter-trials-findings-report.pdf)
