I do not understand what any such repayment will accomplish. As far as I can tell they followed the rules that were in place at the time.

Of all the things you can criticise Blair for, getting a discount on clothes because his wife’s friend works in the business isn’t high on the list.

From 24 years ago? Who cares?
There’s definitely more important things Blair can be pulled up on from back then.

>Ms Caplin told officials that because she bought the clothes wholesale she was able to to secure discounts of up to 60 per cent – including on items bought for Mr Blair as well.
that’s entirely normal, not sure what the point of the article and why there aren’t any dates about when this happened

Repay to who? He was able to buy direct at the wholesale price. Normally the business that bought wholesale will sell the clothes on to customers at a retail price. Who is Blair supposed to pay the retail price to now? Ludicrous hand wringing

I suspect if we’d had social media then, this would have been a much bigger scandal. Was much easier to control the grid as the government then.

And as I recall the Carol Caplin story was a bit murky, she left under a cloud didnt she.

Of all the things you could criticise Tony Blair for why has this suddenly popped up after 25 years.
I’d much rather see Blair and Brown on trial for some of the really evil stuff they did while they are still alive.
Younger people reading this… There used to be less than 90,000 landlords in the UK – Brown and Blair deliberately set out to encourage landlording as an investment to make the old rich off the backs of the young and now there are almost 3 million landlords in the UK. Utter evil.

I don’t think the people urging this are familiar with Tony Blair.
What possible reason could he have for giving money back? He’s not an MP so doesn’t care about the electorate, and he’s spent most of the last two decades being on the wrong side of most issues, in a strange attempt to rehabilitate his image, which he so wilfully destroyed by climbing into the back of George W. Bush’s khakis on the Iraq War.

Not being partisan, but Kimi Badenoch’s mother should be made to pay for her illegal use of the NHS when she came over here heavily pregnant and dropped Kimi without paying.

I don’t care. Im just gobsmacked somebody can spend 10k on clothes in general, let alone as the portion that is the discount. I don’t think I’ve spent that in my entire life.

Tony Blairs invasion of the middle east is just the gift that keeps on giving.

May as well seek compensation from the Romans for illegally introducing the pheasant to the UK.

Who gives a fuck? It was decades ago. There are more important and costly things to take care of now.

Entirely misleading headline. He was urged to repay to avoid the potential for petty political fallout (like this article today), rather than any moral or legal reason.
