Not being funny, but if it rises much further it’ll make pensions a non-feasible asset for many, especially as we can see certain elements of society (eg poor) are more likely to have shorter lifespans. Will we be getting that money back?

    2. nubnutts on

Well if pension age keeps going up the way it has over that’s few years I won’t get to retire till I’m 75 which for me is another 34 years away

    3. hardy_83 on

Well the average age of death in 2022 for the UK was 82, so don’t be surprised if they raise it to 83/85.

But hey, all those old people who vote for reform will be happy to have a government that’s against all those brown people as they die in poverty with no pension or healthcare.

    4. Any-Memory2630 on

Then you’ll have to make sure there’s jobs for everyone.

    5. Successful-Baker-998 on

Let him keep saying this stuff in the media, amplify it loud so all the people who might be swayed into voting for him and his fascist party understand who he truly is and what it will mean for them if he’s in power

    6. 1 in 5 men in the UK die before the age of 60. Nearly 1 in 3 men in the UK die before the age of 70. At a certain point, a triple-locked pension beginning at age 68 starts becoming a cash transfer from the working classes to the richer classes who live far longer.

Far better to keep the entry age as-is, and make pension increases just a single lock to inflation

    7. recursant on

Life expectancy has increased, but many aspects of ageing are still working on the old clock. A 68 year old might have 15+ years of life ahead of them, but they could already have all sorts of physical or cognitive problems.

    8. Quick-Taste4204 on

Telll Nigel Farage to shut his cake hole! Whether or not that happens, it is for the ruling party to do with votes from MPs, not some wanker that has 4 useless friends sat next to him.

    9. ACompletelyLostCause on

This is why the government has been trying to loosen the treble lock on pensions, and scale back winter fuel payments, so the can raise the age slower. I accept they did a terrible job of implementation, but either the pension is reduced for wealthy people, or taxes rise or the qualifying age rises. So far most people are saying no to the only available options and insisting they want a flying unicorn as well. Farage is a post truth opportunist who will lie about everything to make people angry so he can exploit that.

When will this man go away ..he’s caused more damage than anything else and he’s still prodding …F Off!!!

    11. AnalThermometer on

There comes a point where you raise it further and you’ll have too many pre-pensioners in poverty unable to get work as their health and employability declines, who also can’t access their pension yet.

    12. cosmic_monsters_inc on

How and why is this man now a serious contender and not the joke he always was?

    13. Zaphod424 on

Or leave the age as it is but scrap the unsustainable triple lock. Make it a single lock tied to growth of the median salary.

    14. it has to move with life expectancy with a review every 10 years or so, otherwise completely unsustainable.

    15. Logical-Brief-420 on

Yeah no shit, people STILL somehow don’t realise how broke the UK is.

The majority of people are a net drain on the state, it isn’t sustainable.

Either we pay a shit load more tax, enact wealth taxation and make it work where others have failed or we accept the state will be able to provide us less going forward.

    16. HurloonMinotaur on

The boomers will really be looked back on with utter contempt. They’ve sold their kids and grandkids down the river for a Viking River Cruise and a new kitchen.

    17. LowCranberry180 on

If you cut the migration of course it needs to of up

    18. Kickstart68 on

Might have to raise the tax on MEP pensions to cover other pension costs……

As long as his pockets are lined he doesn’t give a flying shite about anybody else

    20. Drugs-R-BadMkay on

Or you know, the political class could stop fucking us over every chance and do their jobs correctly.

    21. ConnectPreference166 on

The audacity of the working class wanting to retire! We should all work ourselves to the ground for the privilege of making the rich even richer!

    22. MickHucknallsMumsDog on

Scaremongering at its finest. Farij should put it on the side of a bus so we all know it’s a fact!

    23. StuwyVX220 on

I’ve said for years that people of my generation (millennial) won’t get a state pension and it’ll be abolished by then.

I’d like to be proven wrong but I can’t see it

    24. MONGED4LIFE on

Great so it’s going to rise under reeves and again with him? Can’t wait.

    25. Used-Eagle3558 on

Meanwhile the Reform mayor for scarborough got a 600% wage increase…

    26. firealno9 on

It’ll get to the point where nobody expects to live long enough to get it.

    27. gorgo100 on

The way they will introduce this will be to select an arbitrary age in the middle beneath which the retirement age will go up.
So half of the current population won’t be affected and the other half will depending what side of that age you fall on.
Classic tactics to make 50% of people just shut up and count their blessings whilst the other half are enraged. If you’re lucky enough not to be affected, you should still be in the streets about it in my opinion.

    28. Mammoth_Occasion5724 on

& we’ll all roll over like good little subjects instead of burning Westminster to the fucking ground like should’ve been done a decade ago.

At least he’s honest. He’s trying to make the finances work after disastrous Labour and Rishi Sunak’s government.

    34. dont-try-do on

I plan to soft retire at 50 almost no matter what.

I’m bang on average earner and am absolutely maxing every savings avenue I can while still doing stuff now.

BUT I’ve completely disengaged from a materialistic life as much as possible. To fuck am I paying 35k for a car so I can drive to work of £300 a month. Because those are the average prices.

Phone is outright and just sim only.

I still go out with my mates, holidays etc but I can no longer condone taking park in the carpark beauty competition. 95%+ of my driving was to work, I’m not paying a years salary to get to work. Hellllll no.

I saved up 30k for a car. Put into into savings instead resulting in 40k savings.

Between the wife and I we put £750 into the saver account. Average of 8% after 25 years with compounding Intrest is almost 2 mil.

House will be almost paid off by then, use some of that to pay it off. Leave work, get a part time job for bills.

Id recommend anyone in a remotely similar position to try and do the same.

I’m dead set on this. Even if I have to sell my house and live in a static van or some shit I will not be working until I drop.

    35. zonked282 on

He can say this because his geriatric voters have proven time and times again that they do not give one solitary fuck about their votes impact on anyone younger than themselves
