ITT a bunch of people that don’t understand how much doctors earn after their first few years or people that think day 1 salaries of 40k are low.

They’re expected to be paid the same levels they were in 2008 pre-crash under the same working conditions while MPs are awarded pay rise after pay rises.

NHS workers still have to pay for their own parking fees, most of the time have to work through their lunch, still rampant bullying from senior doctors and still next to no reforms that actually lift some of the stress and overload of work on the NHS workers.

Full solidarity with them, when the country grinds to a halt like this, it shows we need the likes of resident doctors and bin workers in Birmingham more than we need rich billionaires or water company owners that spaff their money up the walls and contribute little to nothing.

Junior doctors doing their best to privatise the NHS.

It’s an interesting one. It’s definitely going to be a case study for the economics textbook.

Reason being is it’s a highly skilled profession, but it’s also socialised so there’s only really one employer in the market.

My view is; pay them. Because if you don’t, then people will hop across to the private sector and normal people won’t get adequate healthcare as a result of the profession bleeding people.

Or… You could be cynical, and not pay them, but at the same time tax the private healthcare industry. If you wanted to be particularly evil. Basically forcing people to work for a set pay, with a barrier to alternatives.

Well that’s what happens if you don’t pay doctors even close to the going rate.

Good, we need more strikes to bring down this government.

Strong membership strong union if only unison rcn unite etc had the same backbone

    8. They should be allowed to take some of their generous pensions as salary then boom 22% pay rise sorted.

I mean tbf, most public sector workers are earning less than they did then. I started my career into a 5 year pay freeze followed by below inflation pay increases. It’s a joke for everyone (except tube drivers eff them) so I stand with the doctors. Get that pay increase, you more than deserve it.

Good. Pay them a proper restored wage! If not, enjoy the strikes!

      Cunts.

People will die over their quest for more money.

      Awful people.

If you don’t want to do the job pissoff you are killing people

    13. “Oh no…I’m a young professional who’s expected to work my way up the ladder, gain experience and become competent before I make the big bucks – what is the world coming too!?”

Doctors make absolute wedge compared to the average person, just a few years out of med school. Yes, like any highly skilled profession they are expected to repay their student loans, earn their stripes doing junior work for lower pay, and continue their professional development to advance to the next level of status and pay. This is the deal with professional jobs.

They’ll undoubtedly kill people by striking if they cause staffing shortages. Why did they go into this profession again? I understand that pay and conditions have worsened over the years in the NHS – but you really think it’ll be the doctors getting the short end of the stick? Try nurses, healthcare assistants and other traditionally lower paid healthcare roles.

    14. Grass is not always greener. My wife is Australian and I visit regularly. Their system can be just as rubbish.

I could move there tomorrow and get a 30% pay bump in an already high paying line of consulting, but we have family ties, social ties and all the rest of it here in the UK, and cost of living there is higher – so it’s not always about the salary.
