      I can’t believe this is where a council is choosing to spend resources. With all the issues we’re facing, crumbling roads, bins not being collected on time, cuts to essential services, and rising council tax, they somehow think this is a priority?

      Even there argument is flawed. *’Cllr Frost warned that decisions affecting Cornwall are too often made in Westminster without Cornish voices at the table’,* you mean with the exception of the 6 Cornish MPs who sit in parliament? How exactly does this guy thinks a parliamentary democracy works?

      So they’ll naturally not want any financial assistance from the UK government and with the high employment they enjoy in Cornwall (cough) and all of their diverse businesses and revenue streams outside of seasonal tourism I’m sure they’ll be a hugely beneficial fifth nation to the rest of the UK

      Honestly, I think this is fine? If Scotland and Wales can be recognised as nations then this is consistent. It would make a bit more sense if England also had a devolved parliament though.

      I’d rather there was no devolution at all, but given that there is some devolution, it may as well be consistent.

      We need to go to a flat per person funding model and then places can be nation’s or areas or whatever they want and funding will be fair and efficient.

      Wasting taxpayer money aside if there were to be a fifth nation we’d more likely start with Wessex, East Anglia, Northumbria etc.

      My uncle lives in Cornwall and is one of the harbour masters there. It’s facing the same problems as the rest of the UK but arguably worse when it comes to housing and jobs. It’s a stunning, quiet place, still full of old locals, but this is likely the last generation who’ll actually be able to live there. Once the older generation passes, their kids won’t be able to afford to stay. The homes will just go to corporate buyers and millionaires.

      The flag and the push for recognition have been around for decades, but let’s be honest, does anyone really believe the current government would willingly hand over any real status or power?

      Not this shit again. As Cornwall born the county is unrecognisable with blow ins – not necessarily a bad thing but let’s not all get misty eyed about the uniqueness of the Cornish – it’s bollocks.

      I’m Cornish. This is a joke.. always talking about independence, imagine if they decided to cut off funding to Cornwall and had to be self sufficient.. would be fucked. Moved out now, I would say this attitude is not present in the majority of people just the really backwards areas. But of course they all have a voice 😵‍💫

      I’m all for this.

      Unlike many other areas of England Cornwall in particular has a distinct culture, ethnicity and even some language factors that put it if not quite on par with the distinctions that Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales, then not far behind.
