ESSEX Police have released drone footage of protests outside the Bell Hotel in Epping to counter “online misinformation” after posts circulated showing protesters getting into police vehicles.
The force have denied claims they “bussed in” counter-protesters after demonstrations last week outside the hotel believed to house asylum seekers, which saw the initially peaceful protests deteriorate into violence.
The police say they have released a video after claims they were bringing in the counter-protesters to counter the protest, calling this suggestion “categorically untrue”.

Still escorting one side and not the other. Still bussed one side back to the station and not the other.

I love this absurd idea that the police want there to be counter-protesters present. When I was a police officer there was nothing I loved more than two sets of idiots screaming at each other with me in-between.

I’m not saying I think this is what’s happened here, but the government has used a strategy of ‘controlled spontaneity’ to reduce community tensions in the past.
I see such strategies as being ineffective and counterproductive in defusing tensions in the current climate, as it’s clear the majority want the root cause of the problem addressed.

I find it funny how many people are saying Liebour when it’s obvious Liegel is more apt. No surprise Nigel already has a video circulating with his “concern”.

Unfortunately the misinformation has spread far and wide quickly.

Someone needs to call out Farage in PMQs and challenge him on spreading misinformation.
(Edit: ideally the conservative MP whose constituency this took place in, but fat chance of that happening)
Will be even funnier if he doesn’t show up.

Shameless.

I mean the fact of the matter is they walked a large group of counter protestors up to the main demonstration which was otherwise peaceful.
Got them to within spitting distance of each other, and then it all kicked off.
There are literal provisions within the public order act to keep protestors separate at high risk public order events.
There is also prevent a breach of the peace to fall back on.
You’d have to be a total fucking moron to not see that anti-asylum and pro-immigration protestors are going to have a bust up.
We know the police can do this because they arrested someone at a Palestine protest for being ‘obviously jewish’ to prevent a breach of the peace.
The police made a conscious decision not to do that and instead decided to light a fire and kick petrol onto it.
Edit: feel free to downvote me but please leave a comment explaining where I’ve said something non-factual.
I mean let’s not forget when they put barricades up and beat up counter-protestors to the Palestine marches in 2023.
Edit 2:
Having watched the BlackBeltBarrister video recommended by someone else I am even more entrenched in my view that the police totally fucked up
Whilst escorting the counter protestors up to the main demonstration, the counter protestors were wearing masks and making gun symbols.
I can’t imagine any situation in which this is anything but inflammatory behaviour and a clear indication that something will kick off and hardly indicative of a peaceful protestor wanting to exercise their right of peaceful protest.

Given that it’s illegal to cover your face at a protest when the objective is to conceal your identity, in order to create disorder – why would the police escort masked individuals towards a volatile protest when conflict would be inevitable?
Also, is it not standard policy to keep groups separated to avoid such conflicts?

They had to babysit the EDL too when they marched through the midlands. Have the right wing already forgotten that?

I remember when the Southport riot was happening and this sub claimed the far right had invaded Southport by the trainload. And then it transpired that this was not the case and that our PM had lied. In reality it was mainly mothers and fathers who lived in the area.
Now with Epping it’s the opposite. A counter-protest comprised entirely of people who don’t live in Epping (conveniently with signs and banners at the ready) who were safely transported by the police.
