    1. Ofcom must fuck off immediately. An ‘Are You 18?’ checkbox is sufficient. Once a child has been warned about the presence of unsuitable material, any harm that child incurs as a result of ignoring that warning is their own responsibility, and ought to serve as a learning experience.

They’ve basically just banned porn in this country right?

They have already shown their teeth by threatening to sue and imprison small business owners that are expected to pay big company numbers resulting in many small businesses already closing down. Honestly this new online safety act implementation has been atrocious. There is already a petition nearing 50k signatures to change it. Understandable really.

    4. Give it a few months: “No, you can totally still access porn, you just have to do it at the library… and Steve here is going to make a note of everything you look at”

Back to the days of Escort, Fiesta and Mayfair partly covered with a brown paper bag on top shelves of newsagents and finding random pages of Razzle under hedgerows it is then.

    7. Surely this is the job of parents to police their child’s internet usage, not the governments.

It’s going to be a fucking shitstorm when the first one of these third party “age-verification” companies has a leak and we find out they haven’t been telling the truth about any of the promises they make.

    8. My broadband provider has very easy to access controls to limit what can be viewed online with a quick tap.

My phone has parental controls which can limit screen time, prevent access to adult content etc.

Why can parents not use the tools already provided if they’re so concerned?

If this is the way the Government want to tackle this, why should people have to give facial scans/Identifying documentation to random companies who “promise” they’ll delete it afterwards?
