Stefan Kornelius, the Bundesregierung Spokesperson, answered questions regarding the Eurofighter sale to Turkey in a press briefing:

“Without further elaboration, I would like to remark that Mr. İmamoğlu himself expressed a positive opinion from prison.”

Ekrem İmamoğlu, the presidential candidate, had stated that ‘Turkey is bigger than Erdogan’ and the country’s national interests are more precious than both İmamoğlu and Erdogan, asking Germany to reconsider the decision – negotiations for the Eurofighter acquisition were already undergoing, and all members of the Consiulum were persuaded – a veto, however, was enacted following his imprisonment.

He also reminds that the end of the Erdogan regime is not so far away, and that Turkey will cooperate with all its allies, including the European Union and Germany, considering democracy, human rights, and national interests; also reaffirming Turkey’s accession into the Union under the CHP government.

I would have preferred to wait until Erdogan was gone. This feels like celebrating early.
