Armed forces*, not army, wich makes the title even more dobious, more soldiers dosent equal a better equipped armed force, germany lags behind in both equipment, like navy and airforce, and strategic production of key material, like long range air defence missiles, as opposed to Italy, UK and France.

More troops can be good, but as shown by the recent F-126 debacle its just a piece of the story, germany is a long way to being even the third best conventional armed force in europe let alone anything more than that.

We have conscription here in Norway, though only the best are called to the colours, unlike during the Cold War, when I did my military service. This is due how our erstwhile politicians have wrecked our Armed Forces since 1991.

If we want peace, we have to prepare for war. If we want independence from the US, we need to be able to defend our own soil alone.

If we don’t want to defend ourselves, why should we expect others to do it?

Given the plans to purchase tanks, the Bundeswehr will need people.

Finland, with a population of 5,6 million, trains about 24 000 conscripts for the reserve every year. Germany, with nearly 15 times the population, certainly should manage at least twice the Finnish numbers.
