      Doesn’t seem like much considering the role is also unpaid…

    3. They don’t give the actual amounts in the headline because it would be clear how petty the sums are — it’s an increase from £500 -> £3,500 per year.

      If he’s spending 3.5k on attending events as part of his duties it’s perfectly OK. Same as MP expenses. Nobody should be out of pocket for doing their job. I think there are better ways to do this than handing over cash and getting receipts but making public office so expensive that only rich people can afford to do it is not very progressive is it?

      Id be interested if the people saying “doesnt seem like a lot of money” would say that if a Green or Labour run council did the same.
