>During the night of July 23 to 24, an employee of a partner company at the Gravelines power plant was contaminated by a radioactive particle during an inspection. The worker’s life is not in danger and he was able to return home.
>This has not happened at the Gravelines nuclear power plant for nearly 10 years. On the night of Wednesday to Thursday, in the reactor building of production unit No. 1 of the power plant, which is currently shut down for maintenance, an employee was contaminated by a radioactive particle. The employee works for a partner company of the power plant. The man was carrying out an inspection. When he left the building, external contamination was detected on the back of his neck. The radioactive particle was immediately removed by a competent person.
>EDF reports that the employee was treated by the plant’s medical service and that his life is not in danger. After several checks, he was able to return home. However, the worker will not be able to work in a nuclear environment for several months, as this contamination exceeds the annual exposure limit for his profession. No other employees present in the reactor building at the same time were detected as contaminated by the control gates when they left the nuclear zone.
>This event was classified as a Level 2 radiation protection incident on a scale of 7. According to preliminary findings from the internal investigation, the contractor did not comply with all safety precautions for this operation.

Was his name Simpson by any chance?
This is not uncommon and not dangerous. This is why there are multiple measurement points as you exit a plant so you dont bring any contamination outside. All of the dose and contamination limits are way way below anything that is shown to increase the risk of cancer. This article is fear mongering and has no idea about the industry or what is actually dangerous.
“A” radioactive particle?? Wth kind of shoddy journalism is that?
A pound of dirt has 10 to 100 atoms decay per second. You’d have to have femtograms of dirt before you become unlikely to find a radioactive particle in it.
And we’re supposed to call it news when 1 radioactive particle is found? The fact they don’t find more is only from a lack of searching.
The mere fact that it makes the news shows how safe French nuclear power plants are.
Do you guys think when such incidents happen in let’s say Russia, China, hell even in the USA, the company is willingly disclosing everything ?
This is honestly alarming. Even if the exposure was minimal, the fact that a radioactive particle ended up on an employee raises serious concerns about safety protocols.
Did he have a Banana for Lunch ?
Did he see graphite on the ground tho?
