I’m making this post since the other one with the same context was removed when it already had 5000 upvotes and over 1000 comments.

Really seems like someone doesn’t like this opinion…

Meh regulate the shit out of these shitty social media platforms. As well make sure every account can be traced to the imbecile using it

    3. I’m all up for doing this, but not by providing any personal info to fucking social media platforms.

Luckily we have eID in the EU which is designed just for that purpose.

Would be even better if this could be something mandatory worldwide to get rid of all the fucking bots and alts weaponized by state actors and companies to shape public opinion and silence dissent.

Social media needs to be regulated as hell. There is no other industry in the world that can get away with stuff that it enables.

I assume this post will be downvoted to oblivion by kids and terminally online folks who don’t understand the first thing about the impact of social media or digital privacy.

In a decade we will reference China as the land of the free, because Europe tries to kill the freedom in the Internet even harder.

    5. Holy shit why’d everyone suddenly go radical pro-surveilance under this post

How the hell would ”Pornhub” know if the id i give it…is real…as its just a photo.
Unless they give ALL sites access to police records so they can verify the authenticity of the id you upload?
Seriously….in UK that people say sites ask to authenticate the age…what does it ask…and how do they know its real?

    7. Well, it helps social media detox.
      I haven’t visited twitter all day 🥳

    8. Twitter seems already to block NSFW content in EU and requires age verification now.

So no more freedom of speech. And you got a personal database what your personal opinions are with politics and ideas. Its the start of a prison planet

    10. dustofdeath on

If i am sending personal identification data to a third party site, there are zero guarantees that they do not keep any of it, nor write logs or cache it.

Nor do they mention if governments can keep records themselves. They could keep records of where you have authenticated, which can build a full profile of what you do and what you visit.

They talk about privacy, but not anonymity.

Except the age vertification should not require any of your personal information, only the app provides confirmation that you are over 18 years old.

How the fuck do European politicians manage to make the wrong decision about EVERYTHING. If my life depended on it, I couldn’t tell you 1 good decision made by the EU in the past 5 years.

    13. CountFew6186 on

Who voted for this? Did some party run on doing this? Was it a selling point?

    14. Any non financial site which requires any kind of id verification, is a site I no longer use.

Can’t wait for the government to know the weird porn I watch

Technology dictatorial orwellian nightmare. All the dystopia movies predicted this years ago.

      Its time to organize.

      Agahahhahahahja, bye bye Reddit,
I’ve already ditched FB 8years ago

    18. Just do, what Brits are doing. Use photo of Norman Reedus from Death Stranding 2, to bypass the filters. Lol.

    19. Worldly_District_317 on

There needs to be some way for us to help stop this, complete bullshit.

    20. arathergenericgay on

Love being inconvenienced because a bunch of lazy, entitled people can’t parent their kids effectively so the government latches on to appeasing them as a smokescreen to further infringe on civil liberties

    21. NorthMathematician32 on

They’re all doing it. Many American states, the UK, and Australia. This idea is coming from somewhere. I think porn is a cover story. It’s really about killing online anonymity.

    22. snowsuit101 on

And it’s going to be much worse when service providers will also be mandated to track and keep data on everybody, only support backdoored encryption, and the digital ID wallet releases that will neatly tie all of it, everything you do online to your own identity.

    23. melasses on

Would you be against it if we came up with a bullet proof to verify age and keep anonymity?

This seam to becoming the future so best to develop the best system that align all goals

    24. psychelic_patch on

The fact that technologies like MakeHuman or AI are getting increasingly good at perfecting simulated fake faces should give you a strong opinion concerning the feasibility of said law.

Overall the implementation is not the worst considering the age-key ; however it’s so easily bypassable that it seems (to me) that the government is in the illusion of what it can do or cannot do – and unfortunately seems to be really disconnected from the realities of wtf is happening.

    25. Intelligent_Ice_113 on

how would platforms prove that some ID card is legit and not Photoshop/generative AI made?

    26. Ifartinsoup on

I share your POV, but you dont resist fascism with petitions

    27. I hate this idea. Lately one page asked me for verification but the only option availaible was photo of face. Im 20 AND IT TELLS ME IM NOT LOOKING OLD ENOUGH AND I CANNOT REACH THAT

    28. Meizukage on

Honestly I think it’s a good thing, the Internet (and minors in particular) need to be monitored and regulated
