Weak. Trump came with a gun to our heads and now Ursula cut a deal. Give me a break.

China were prepared to fight it out and Donnie backed off. He’s a coward at heart so either push back or get walked over.

This is a typical Eurocrat solution.

von der Leyen got a fat check under the table and a promise of a new job after we finally get rid of her in the EU

    3. How dumb to you have to be to take Trump’s bad offer instead of just waiting for him to chicken out? Did she learn negotiation at the Neville Chamberlain School of Diplomacy?

    4. Nurnurum on

I would like to know more about the 600 billion dollars that the EU supposedly is going to invest into the US according to Trump.

    5. AtTheTabard on

The best that the spineless, the disloyal, and the dishonourable could come up with.

Perhaps she should apply for US citizenship: she obviously has more loyalty to their government than she ever would have for the population of the bloc she’s supposed to chair.

    6. Zealousideal_Fill664 on

Who the actual Fword elected this woman to negotiate in our name?

    7. RogueHeroAkatsuki on

I would rather have full fledged trade war than this. According to prognosis US would lose more gdp growth than EU. We need to get rid of American trojan horses like von der Leyen. We are also biggest importer of their arms and LNG industries so we have some leverage.

    8. Roklaren56 on

      She is 100% right

People keep voting in idiots to the EU for decades

The german mismanagement of their energy, which inadvertently fucks anyone who relies on trading with them (most of the EU)

Almost every single member state not giving a fuck about defence for decades except for a few handful

The pro russian snakes among us

All of this got us here

Blaming idiots like vdl is easy but the problem isn’t just her

The problems are voters, the idiot EU mps every member state keep sending and stupid decisions member states kept doing year after year when it came to security, energy or even integration

    9. Q: Given that this is a framework rather than an ink-dry deal, was it just about getting the tariffs as low as possible in the short term more than anything else? Or will the tariffs be unchanged until a full deal is signed?

    10. Additional-Can9184 on

I see a lot of you are offended by the deal, but you need to do the math. We are currently buying 20b EUR a year of LNG from USA. Alternative would be Russia. Weapons? I think we all know it. As for the 600b in infrastructure, that’s probably a 20 years project and the Donald will be history by then. So where is the tragedy?

    11. Zestyclose_Ad8420 on

You guys should calm down and look at the facts.

Read her actual declaration and THINK:

I bet european markets will be green monday morning.

      https://ec.europa.eu/commission/presscorner/detail/en/statement_25_1915

Allow me to go into some details. We have stabilised on a single 15% tariff rate for the vast majority of EU exports. This rate applies across most sectors, including cars, semiconductors and pharmaceuticals. This 15% is a clear ceiling. No stacking. All-inclusive.

Today we have also agreed on zero-for-zero tariffs on a number of strategic products. This includes all aircraft and component parts, certain chemicals, certain generics, semiconductor equipment, certain agricultural products, natural resources and critical raw materials. And we will keep working to add more products to this list.

On steel and aluminium, the EU and the US face the common external challenge of global overcapacity. We will work together to ensure fair global competition. And to reduce barriers between us, tariffs will be cut. And a quota system will be put in place.

We will also increase our energy cooperation. Purchases of US energy products will diversify our sources of supply and contribute to Europe’s energy security. We will replace Russian gas and oil with significant purchases of US LNG, oil and nuclear fuels.

    12. Morepork69 on

Without being privy to the details people need to read between the lines here. We know Trump is all ego and optics, telling him he won is also an excellent strategy because that same ego can’t believe for a second he hasn’t.

A “deal” was inevitable just to get him to move on to his next victims, I just think it’s about buying time and appearances from an EU perspective.

    13. ihadtomakeajoke on

*These countries are calling us up, kissing my ass. They are dying to make a deal. ‘Please, please, sir, make a deal. I’ll do anything. I’ll do anything, sir.’*

      Sounds like no lies there.

    14. Bellidkay1109 on

This is absolute bullshit. Completely pathetic. We’re agreeing to eat shit and thanking them for the privilege. I guess we should be thankful Von der Leyen doesn’t have the authority to simply hand over Greenland.

And we’re proving that Trump was actually right. Despite all previous analysis and expert opinions, tariffs worked out great for him. He strong-armed the EU without breaking a sweat. He literally did so on what amounts to a golfing trip.

As a hard-core believer in the EU and the benefits of working together and facing the world as one, I’m absolutely livid. When do we start protesting? Whose window do we have to throw a brick through to fucking cancel this shit?

    15. DingoCertain on

Thank you to whoever put this unelected trash negotiating for the entirety of the European Union.

    16. TestingHydra on

Wow, if only the EU consulted the great minds of Reddit. Trump surely would’ve folded

    17. What’s the chance of any of this still being relevant a month from now?

    18. SkiHistoryHikeGuy on

What a shit attitude from your leader. Who the fuck wants to hear that from their leader? “Sorry people of Europe this is the best we could get.” I am continually astounded by how out of touch and completely tone deaf the establishment politicians are right now. In Europe and in the US. No wonder the fascists are winning.

    19. Jeroen_Jrn on

Fuck off. 20 trillion dollar economy of bargain power, and the best you could get is total capitulation? Resign.

    20. Basically Trump’s methods work and it’s only because we allow it and play his game.

    21. Belydrith on

Making any sort of one-sided arrangement like this with this fat fascist piglet at all is a total travesty and defeat and quite frankly VDL should be out of a job after this.

    22. DefInnit on

15% is what has been rumored/speculated in recent days as compromise from Trump’s desired 30%. VDL has no real power and couldn’t have reached an agreement for 15% without prior approval from the EU majors.

    23. Kevin_Jim on

They took TACO at face value. If that doesn’t say they suck at their job, I have no idea what does.

They could’ve, and should’ve, let things play out and use this leverage to strike long term deals with actual allies like Japan, Canada, and hopefully Taiwan.

But they wanted “stability”, like this ahole won’t wake up tomorrow and slam a 150% tariff because part of the list was finally leaked and his name is multiple time on there.

Simply disgraceful, and exactly that nationalists and right-wingers have been hoping for.

    24. Leandrys on

Yep, because when you laugh about Trump’s negotiating skills, don’t forget Ursula and her golden boys n’ girls are even worse.

Our glorious European leader, so strong, so smart, so much not corrupted at all, was gonna sell while Europe to Putin because *wE cAn sEE thE ChAngE hApPeniNg iN RuSSiA*, just a detail of course, don’t worry, she and the likes of her leading Europe are so good, you wouldn’t believe it, and you definitely won’t believe it in a close future.

    25. ShanklyBoy59 on

We bent over a took it like the good champ we are.

I have no idea why we are so weak. Every time the Americans tell us “Jump” we reply “Do you want a fluffing with that?”.

    26. nvidiastock on

Is there one of those european union petitions going around that could be signed to show displeasure of this trade agreement?

    27. Wolfhart on

I will never again buy anything from US.

Also, is there any way to remove that bitch Leyen?
