Does it make sense to write to our MPs and express our discontent?

And the worst part is, conservatives over here are gonna verbally suck him off for the next 6 months because he finally did something they think is good for them.

Every time I read the news or open social media, within 30 minutes I just end up wishing this stupid b****rd had gotten arrested *years* ago when they found him guilty of SA, but unfortunately, the justice system doesn’t apply to you if you’re rich.

I’m happy everyone outside of america seems to understand at least. It’s comforting knowing the rest of the world is reasonable 🙂

Someone tell me the concessions US have given EU for this deal?

Meanwhile US has given China another 90 days negotiation extension because they refuse to capitulate

Can the EU not vote someone else in, instead of Ursula. She really let you guys down.

Surely any country can veto this?

it is essentially versailles 2.0. a disgrace, an insult and a humiliation – and a stab in the back.

on the positive side, trade with this evil, greedy empire will decrease and consequently their influence and “stick” to beat us with in trade wars, will decrease in size. as the decoupling happens, we will be very free to make a move against their service industry – and eventually get rid of them like china has done.

Ursula was moved to Brussels due to her incompetence. Unbelievable….

There is an EU Parliament which is actively kept weak by the governments – especially by the big countries like France.

Then there is the Council of Ministers, which actually has the say in the EU and can actively influence the Commission, for example when it made von der Leyen President even though she did not stand in the parliamentary elections.

And now you realize that you shouldn’t give too much power to politicians sent to Brussels that nobody at home wanted anymore?

I would laugh if it wasn’t so sad and if it wasn’t to our disadvantage.

Europeans are sad they’ll have to buy energy from America rather than Russia now 🙁

    12. geocapital on

I read somewhere- not sure where anymore- that this deal can never happen, as EU cannot scale up energy purchase from the US first because it’s not EU that buys the energy and probably not even the countries, but businesses. Also US cannot scale up production. So the whole deal appears to be for trying to look like he made a deal.
I’m not saying I agree with how it was handled, but a fake/impossible deal as a soft power leverage by the EU may not be as bad as it looks.

I am more in the group of accepting it rather than liking it..
At least we don’t get a trade war. And I also think that now that we have a deal we can work with it. Work around it. It’s better to work with something you have foundation on rather than work with nothing

A sad day for the EU and the world. It shows 2 things
      1. Trump and MAGA are right – the strongman approach works and yield sresults. This will obviously bolster far right and fascism going forward sincc we can see it gets those results.
      2. The EUs principles and values are worthless… if it is going to give so much to someone who is actively rolling back human rights, threatening freedoms and democracy and removing rights from marginalised groups, the commitment to the values the EU was built on have clearly eroded.

    15. sechsterangriff on

Honestly for me this is just posturing. Going immediately to a trade war strategy would have a much more disruptive impact and would have any European leader shitting their pants with the most impacted sectors protesting at their doors. European leaders know this, and this is just deferring blame to the EU like always. Actually, behind the scenes most likely every European leader gave the go ahead to von der Leyen beforehand.
Yes it fu***** sucks, but this is the way. Before entering a trade war it has to be blatantly clear to EVERYONE that Trump can’t even be held to any agreement. Then the EU should go absolutely “nuclear” and throw the weight of its market in full.
If Trump honors the agreement, at least our sectors most exposed to the US market have gained some time to adapt and diversify.

In addition to the 15% tariffs, this “deal” will cement the US technological monopolies and will cost **3000 euro to each EU citizen** (750 billion of energy products + 600 billions of weapons = 1350 billions of “investments” / 450 million Europeans = 3000).
