From Bloomberg News reporter Samy Adghirni:

French President Emmanuel Macron said the European Union wasn’t feared enough in the trade talks with the US, which led to a deal many have criticized as unbalanced.

Speaking at a cabinet meeting Wednesday, Macron said the deal was negotiated under “difficult circumstances.”

Y’all still don’t get it, and Trump played you.

You made all the same mistakes Democrats made.

The one argument against euroskeptics: “we are stronger together” has failed miserably. It will need a lot to repair the damage. The recent events have turned me from a proud european to a moderate eurosceptic.

Macron’s internal politics are questionable, often even flat-out bad. But i hope the next French leader will have the same guts as Macron on the international stage, and will not be another technocrat bending over and throwing away all sense of honor and power projection to get meager returns to save their dying industry that is being regulated to death by that same EU. (Looking at you Merz).

      Edit: some grammar.

We should have hit them in the tec sector. A tax on citizen data usage. Public tech contracts can only be issued to European companies, same with critical infrastructure. Tbh we should still just do that.

What they forgot to remember that we are dealing with a culture and a people that have mostly psychopathic traits. It is not a normal country, which seek a fair and decent relationsship with the world – because their culture promotes something else entirely. As they see it, if you can trash, extort, exploit and humiliate your neighbor, it is just great – and they absolutely love it. You are a great person if you succeed with that in America and they will celebrate you. Consequently they needed to be treated as such. With a psychopath, you need force and threats all the time. We should never make the mistake of considering them a normal decent country, which seeks something reasonable and balanced.

What is there to fear? Europeans will roll over rather pathetically. Perhaps they would like to crawl on the floor a bit more referring to a Trump as ‘Daddy’ again. They have a child like naivety who laughably think the US is a friend or at the very worse think this will all end in a few months. Nope. It’s going to get a worse for Europe – the world’s trade punching bag.

It’s hard to be scary when you’re bent over with your cheeks spread and facing the opposite direction…

What they should be scared of? Can’t even think a single leverage we have against US. You can’t be so weak geopolitically and except good deal.

How can you be feared if you depend on the USA and NATO? We in europe get gaslighted by our leaders that we have a strong position. If its just economy I would even say yes, we are almost on equal ground. However Trump has shown that he will mix security and economic interests to get what he wants. Trump has Ukraine´s destiny in his hand and therefore also europe´s .

What I don’t get is: can von der layen just Act as she pleases? In my mind there is no way how macron or merz or any big business leader can be surprised.

They must all be informed before closing, don’t they?

      What a fucking mess

Long-term, we have to leave Nato and start our own EU army. As long as we’re dependent on the US when it comes to defence, we will always be in a position of eventual submissions.

I’m afraid that EU has a similar self perception as what the UK had leading up to Brexit.

I’m tired of being gaslit into believing we have a strong position. Self-delusion of grandeur.

The EU held all the cards though, surely.

      How the turntables.

Macron suddenly reacts as if he just read it yesterday. He could have cleared more trade measures that would impact France, but somehow that was not the way forward.

    16. There is nothing to fear from the EU. Our political and economical elite grew complacent after the end of the cold war.

They were convinced (and convinced a majority of us) that they can have everything at the same time: geopolitical strength and low military expenditures, globalization and protectionism, russian fuel and no russian influence, high living standards and neoliberal economic policies.

Now everything is biting us in the ass, but we keep electing them (see Merz). I don’t really see how we can hope to escape this situation.

Merde. How the hell who could agree with that kind of deal with a White House paedophile?
