Ho torto? Aperto a tutte le opinioni.

  1. Yes, this is offensive. Period.

If there’s a country in the world that ever managed to deal with national guilt etc, it’s Germany.

Well, censoring is completely unnecessary and yes, insulting to a degree.

Whether the content itself is insensitive I cannot say. Depends on the meme. Making jokes about the Nazis? Sure, go ahead. Joking about the victims, regardless of the side? Absolutely nope, and censoring it so Germans don’t see it won’t help with that. The act/joke/meme in itself would be despicable.

Depends on the parody but in general we Germans don’t have any problems with jokes about WWII or the third Reich. We are only very sensitive when it comes to jokes about the holocaust.

  4. It kind of sounds like this person doesn’t want us to feel bad after being remembered about the fact we lost. That’s not how Germans think about WWII, the loss of the Nazis is what gave us our freedom back.

I wouldn’t call it offensive, but possibly pandering to the wrong crowd.

If I saw this on a youtuber I like, I would leave a comment pointing this out and then wait if there is a reaction or follow-up. If it turned out the person was intentionally pandering to AFD voters, I’d unfollow.

The post isn’t about the turtle, but about their comment of censoring all mentions of WWII in their videos because of their German audience.

Comedy has no limits. If shis funny it’s always funny.

Well, i do not know the “WWII parody turtle”, but mostly we are quite cool about that. We know our history and are in general not offended by making jokes about it as long as you do not actually mock the victims. You will get serious backlash for making stupid tik-tok-challenges at Holocaust memorials, but if you want to ridicule Adolf The Worst, go on.

Do Germans get offended about anti-Nazi jokes? Hell no, and those who do should get the fuck outta here.

What others have said: It depends on the memes. Generally, we won’t clutch our pearls when someone mentions the war. But if this person thinks their jokes are in bad taste in the first place, why make them at all? It’s not that you just offend your German audience if they are insensitive. Either stand by what you do or don’t do it.

In general, as a German, I often feel like a second-class citizen for having to endure censorship that other countries don’t have. For example, I don’t like that in video games about WW II, swastikas get removed while people in other countries see a more historically accurate picture. The nazis are the enemies in those games, ffs.

I don’t know this turtle, but if it is a funny parody I would consider it a pity for it to be gone. If it’s not funny then I guess it’s not funny but I wouldn’t be offended.

The one thing I would not like if some work is actually in support of nazism.

Seems more like ‘I want to keep the Youtube income, so I censor Hitler. But I don’t wanna sound greedy, so I say I do it out of compassion.’

Then again, we need the full picture.

If someone censors WWII for their German audience they have absolutely no clue how WWII is handeld in Germany. Denying the crimes of your nation is one of the most toxic sides of high nationalism.

  14. Mentioning the war that liberated Germany from an evil dictatorship is hardly insulting.

My experience is that Germans (and Europeans in general) are much more aware of seriousness of what that regime was doing than people from other parts of the world.

Censoring stuff because certain groups or bubbles cry about it is nonsense … these people will demand more and more censoring till only the stuff they deem acceptable is aviable … thats a stupid and dangerous road to go down …

All Germans I spoke of do not shy away from their history. Germany was around a lot longer before Nazi Germany came along and it will be around a lot longer after we’re all dead and gone. Recognize history for what it was and where you are now. It doesn’t represent you.

Just show it. If we don’t like it, we’ll call the StaSi :3
