Yes we need to build new prisons for men and women, but shouldn’t prisoners who are close to release be left out early to make space for newly sentenced people to make sure they have to serve some time and have consequences for their crime.

This is on Helen McEntee, who was an abysmal failure as Minister for Justice.
There was nothing done during her time in the office for the last few years to increase prison capacity. Any person with half a brain could see this coming.
But the article does point out tagging not being used. A tender put out only in June. Anything in this country is painfully slow to implement.

Surely he’s a prime candidate for a prison exchange scheme? He could be sent to Venezuelan prisons for a little holiday. Think their costs are only around 10usd per day per prisoner.
Outsourcing our prison problem for violent repeat offenders will be a pretty good detourent for the next generation of scumbags.

As fucking thick and disgusting as spitting on someone is, do we really need to be sending people to prison for it? Surely a hefty fine would be more painful for the offender and overall more fitting.
