Yes. Older properties need additional work for solar, batteries and pumps. Iwe should be making it cheaper and easier.

UK were in the news recently for massive uptake of heat pumps. What are they doing different to us?

They could start by ensuring the grant does not directly inflate the price.

A heat pump costs about 3 to 4k. My house has been assessed and needs no remedial works, so is a dirext swap of boiler for hp. Best quote I got was 13k. That’s 9k for 1 days work by 2 people. Seems high, no?

If I install a heat pump, it’s actually cheaper to do it myself and not go the grant route, which is nuts. That’s why I’ve not used the grant, and I really want to switch to one.

Obviously. This is a no brainer. There are lots of G houses / flats as well as abandoned properties that would benefit massively from repairs / upgrades without demolishing the thing.

After all, for environment, what is better – renovation or demolition / build from scratch?

Economics #101 but no matter how many times it’s explained that grants get built into cost we have Civil Servants and politicians that persist with them because hey – they sound good look good and it’s not our money so who cares about value for money……
