> A council is to hand out more air fryers to pensioners to help them reduce their household bills.
> Last winter North Lincolnshire Council distributed 8,000 appliances, including 6,000 energy-saving cooking devices.
> A Freedom of Information request by a member of the public revealed the council spent more than £650,000 on the scheme.
> It was paid for from a £2.3m grant from the government’s Household Support Fund.
> According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, details of this year’s scheme were discussed at a council meeting.
> Council leader Rob Waltham said the project had “proved hugely popular”.
> “We know many pensioners continue to struggle with the cost of living crisis,” he said
> “Being able to support all older residents to eat healthily and keep energy bills down is important, we know it matters.”
> As well as air fryers people can also apply for slow-cookers and one-cup kettles.
> Those eligible can register online or through their local community centre and the devices will be distributed from September onwards.

Is that really the best picture they could find to extol the virtues of air friers?
I mean, they are handy, and good for single people cooking small amounts, but not sure that picture is going to sell it!

Hopefully there’s some means testing attached to this. Not just giving free appliances to people who can easily afford them. It might make more sense to provide them to low-income families who are trying to feed kids on a budget.

Yet more money spent on pensioners just because they cannot think on their own two feet. Are to going to spend yet more money simply they refuse to go on Amazon and buy heated clothing?

There is no means testing of this benefit so millionaire pensioners could be given air fryers with tax payer money.

You know why they are so nice to pensioners? Because they vote in elections. If the 18 to 35s want this kind of luvin from the government, get out and vote.

How about give them to students that are already crippled by the student loans? It would encourage them to cook rather than be forced to eat out. Nah, let’s give them to triple locked pensioners that will never use them anyway.

What about any of this is unique to pensioners?
I’m so fed up of paying for handouts for the worst generation.

I wish we could be taxed 100% of our income so boomers can get more freebies. The luckiest generation in history don’t deserve cuts to their wealth

Stick your council tax bill up by 10% every year because they’re running out of money to empty your bins every two weeks, but can still find a spare half mil to give the wealthiest demographic a free appliance.
What a country.

My grandma got one last go round. Makes it much easier/cheaper to cook. She used to hate heating the oven for 30 minutes to cook, now she just uses the air fryer for practically everything. She struggled with lifting pans/trays from the oven, she also struggled to reach lower shelves. Her oven is basically redundant
It has allowed, to an extent her continued independence.
For those complaining, she’s in her 90’s and lives on her own, it’s not like anyone’s going to employ her. She’s not wealthy either. Husband died some 50 years ago and she was a single parent for most of my dad’s life.

Maybe a small air fryer is better than an oven, but a large air fryer more comprable to an oven uses a fuckload of electricity.

FYI RBL are going this around Lincoln! You don’t have to be a pensioner to benefit! Also, you can take what you want for example an electric blanket, air fryer, slow cooker, thick socks and big fleece blankets. My father got an electric blanket and thick socks from them last year so him and his dog can stay warm while watching Xmas films. They also have more things they can help with if you’ve served including with filling in forms

This website fucking hates pensioners.
The amount of discrimination against the people who are your grandparents or parents is absolutely mental.
There are some seriously vulnerable people out there. My parents are in this category. Not all of them are rich you know? Fuck sake.

So are they gonna be in the daily mail comments complaining about handouts for people that dont want to work then?

I love how “pensioners” are literally boomers now, the wealthiest generation to have ever existed. This isn’t Dorris or Edith from the ’40s, these people have sucked the country (world) dry and yet still demand more.
