Pensieri? opinioni?

“As an international student” Did you mean food courier?

    2. combat008 on

I think UK, Germany or Sweden would be a better destination if you are so scared. They are much more multicultural and accepting of brown people.

If you are not white, you will have difficulties in everyday life. From renting an apartment to being treated disrespectfully daily. If someone says otherwise, they are lying.

    4. forgeris on

Need context, from this video alone we can only draw conclusion that one dumbass got angry at food courier for no reason, a nd if it’s so then he should be punished. But I would never draw any conclusions from one sided footage, need to know exactly why this happened. Did they have previous encounter, did they know each other… I never saw such things live so can’t comment on how often this happens, but if this would be common then we would have tons of footage and judging that I didn’t see any then probably this is exception. But again, context matters, and you already drawn that this is racist attack – why?

    5. netobsessed on

I wouldn’t assume it was necessarily racist. Some people are simply aggressive regardless of who is in front of them.

    6. Spiritual-Jello-9970 on

Certainly hard to comment without the context.

If the guy just casually attacks anyone of other race unprovoked, he will have to do a lot of fighting, since there are a lot of foreigners, especially in Riga.

I don’t know a lot of such cases, but I won’t say it’s impossible. You will encounter casual racism in any place in the world.

And these people wouldn’t have helped if they were both white. Latvians are generally reserved and don’t like to be bothered unless something extreme is happening.

    7. Latvia is in early stages of becoming a multicultural society. Like in less than 10 years ago it would be a surprise to meet any person of colour on the street. Yes, right now we have a lot of international residents, but their integration to the local society isn`t going well. I would say it about equal how unsafe locals feel about international residents and how unsafe international residents feel about locals

Do you have more info? Hard to draw any conclusions based on this video alone

Sound like there was something with the bag

Not sure if this is race related

    9. Available-Safe5143 on

Don’t make it appear as if Latvians are at fault. You are not doing a good job.
We have been living with such russian abusers for 90 years now.

    10. Available-Safe5143 on

Why seeing the world in black and white?
We, Latvians, have been suffering from such attacks of russians towards us for years.

Looks and sounds like he’s drunk, he even spoke in a very high pitched tone. Drunks are drunks, but we’re one of the most racist parts of Europe, but that racism is mostly in terms of us voting and speaking, not punching people for existing.

If you are a female student, you are going to be fine, don’t you worry. I think what worries us are specific male workers or passport bros that come to this country to use benefits, objectify women, do shady stuff behind the counters. There’s literally nothing deeper. I have spoken to female students from India and even they say to stay away from such individuals. 🙂

    14. koknesis on

Look, I’m not saying that racism is not a problem in Latvia, but if a video of one incident is what made you reconsoder then any predominately white country is off limits for you.

    15. Its just some some dumb, might intoxicated dude. Even I who was born and raised here, has had the misfortune seeing these type of people.

    16. EmiliaFromLV on

I am curious as to how you came into possession of this material, as it appears to be from indoors camera and the restaurants/bistros usually do not leak/disclose such records. In any case, I suggest forwarding this information to the State Police.

    17. robo-copo on

It could have happened to anyone. You will encounter such people sometimes. When I was younger had x3 such situations.
I would say, 70% because durnktard and 30% racist.

    18. PresidentOfLatvia on

White lad is obviously drunk, and some, often insecure, drunk people try to fight other people, especially ones they think are weaker than them. Racism? Maybe a tang of it, but more realistically just an unhappy person taking it out on the first person to look at them in a wrong way.

Alcoholism is a problem around these parts, so if ya do come here – go easy on the Hektors, and give a wide berth to drunk people you don’t know.
