Seems… deeply unfair? Imagine if you had any other asset stolen, and the value went up in the meantime before it could be returned to you. You would still fully expect to be entitled to all of your asset!

For people who can’t be arsed to read cash was taken and used to purchase BTC. The BTC was then seized and the original loss amount was returned.
A moral issue perhaps but not really a legal one.
In reality this isn’t any different to the banks using your crappy savings account to give you low interest while they are making way more with it.
