They are still paid less than a middle manager in most medium sized companies.

TDs salaries are locked to specific public sector grades; they get every increase that that grade gets. They don’t get to give themselves increases outside of this like happened in the past (15+ years ago)
Every PS worker got a payrise at the same time as this.

Don’t we get this same headline every six to twelve months when the public service agreed pay increases become active.
Surely people must now understand that their pay is linked to that of every civil servant in the country

That’s a modest salary, compared to private sector or public sector in other countries. The raise is below inflation too, so they are getting pay cuts in real terms.
Whether or not you think they are doing a good job should be sorted at election time, not expecting them to get paid less because you don’t like the election outcome. I don’t agree with their policies, but I don’t begrudge a reasonable salary for the job.

Fair wage to be dealing with the shite some of them do – lads turning up to “protest” on your doorstep.

It’s not necessary the salary that’s high it’s the pension rights after 2 years service which is insane and golden handshakes when the electorate no longer wants them

Not a lot of money for an awful job.

Over paid and under deliver. Should be 40k a year, capped expenses and see who turns up. It should be a vocation, not a chance to grift the populace
Worse – so did senior civil servants and they are untouchable underworked overpaid and we’re stuck with them for life. At least TDs can be fired every 4 yrs….

I think it should be a well paid job. It’s difficult, high profile and highly insecure employment. If we don’t think they earn it then vote for someone who will.
People on this thread saying “ah sure it’s not that big of a salary, loads of people earn that much in management”. Please cop on and be honest. It is literally in the top 5% of earners – this is a massive salary any which way you slice it.
