Surely this will lead to higher immigration numbers?
We deport the illegal migrant but have to exchange for a different migrant (that the French don’t need to provide any information about). So we exchange someone who we could have deported for someone we can’t deport… our government think we are idiots.

I don’t really understand this scheme, for every person we deport back to France, they send an alternate person
So we’re net in the same position as before? I don’t get it or why this is seen as groundbreaking by labour

Who are the people we’re getting in? Is there specific criteria for them or can the French just give up one of their illegal migrants in the swap? I haven’t seen anything yet
If so then this doesn’t seem like a good deal at all

I’m really shocked people don’t understand why this works – Why pay smugglers to cross the channel when you’re getting sent back. This reduces the incentive to actually cross. If we lower the people wanting to cross via boats then the overall number goes down. It’s a good policy.

So we let one in and send one back, then the one we sent back sneaks back in again. What is the point?

I really don’t understand why asylum seekers won’t stay in France? There is no war there
